Practice combos go very cheaply on ebay, doesn't need to be a good one, just one with a headphone outlet. Plug in your 'phones, the speaker is almost always disconnected when you do, and away you go. Get one with two inputs and you can plug in your mp3 player to accompany.
I bought a Hartke 20W combo this way, still in its box for £10. Here's an example:

and here's a bass:

Can't see too many bids going on these, could do it all for less than a fiver!
Edit - couldn't resist, here's another: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Stagg-Electric-Bass-...=item4aac9a91b7
I'm with this guy! Sounds like the best and cheapest idea yet -
Very nice! I've got the white one (see above ) and it's an awesome bass.

Wish you had some ashtrays
If you do, by any random chance, please PM me -
Close up of the fretboard for anyone interested
-
That's a lovely black beauty. The fretboard looks an unusual colour - is that just the light? Also the fretboard looks to have some interesting figuring on the wood.
Thank you
It looks to me like someone has attempted to stain the fretboard at some point in the past, and it's just taken in to the grain. I quite like it though, it's unusual. It is maple, but looks almost pink from a distance.
I'll try and take a close up later! -
I'd like to show off my little family, including the latest acquisition (bottom).
Please excuse the Warwick, she knows her place isn't in this thread

Awesome keep us posted on the first gig!

Plus the one. -
Scam. Stay well clear

I was just playing this and decided to see if I could get the action any lower by putting a neck shim in - worked a treat!
It's awesome, even more playable than it was before. -
Mines in bits awaiting a trip to Howard.
Ooooh, what's he gonna do to it? -
That is very nice! I'd love an MM copy, but alas - money is not something I see much of these days
I have a solid gold one which I bought for £1m from Duke Kenneth Weatherington-Fearnhighstoneleigh (pro. Fanshaw) in the 1980's.
Something tells me you're not being entirely serious, sir -
Well for an extra £15 I can include a cushy 4" strap that makes any bass feel weightless.
Hehe, definitely tempting! But if a big fella like you finds it too heavy, a short-arse girl like me doesn't have much of a chance -
I almost offered to sent it to you when you were asking for picks but I couldn't bring myself to part with it
I don't blame you man! That's awesome I can't find any with my birth year (1982) but I'm still hunting! -
A single pick. That you use, not a collectors item.
I'm interested -
Just dinnae bother. I bought a set put them on (they looked lovely) but they really cramp your style when playing. Fender knew what thet were doing when they stopped selling basses with the covers on.
When I'm playing, I have no problem at all so far as I play close to the bridge (I like the tone there). In fact, they seem to help me, as I rest my thumb against the pickup cover when playing fingerstyle, and the side of my palm against the bridge cover when using a pick. -
Small update....
I decided to go with Ou7shined's suggestion of blu-tack which works really well, and I don't seem to have a problem playing with them on. But I'm going to play a gig with them on before I take the plunge.
One small issue though. I find myself resting my hand on the bridge cover when I'm playing pick style. The blu-tack seems to move slightly and the cover slips down. Not a major problem but I have to keep re-adjusting it which is a minor inconvenience -
There are benefits to both of course. But I wouldn't be without my Precision.
Welcome -
Ha! That's so cool. And sounds awesome, which I didn't expect.
I don't think my back would like it though... -
Evil Unded: Can't do that i'm afraid, but I will do a discount and let the 3 of them go for £1000 altogether if you wish
Hehe! I wish I could afford it, but alas
Good luck with the sales dude, I'm most jealous of whoever gets these. -
I wish you meant £450 for the three together, haha!
Bump for some lovely basses. -
Nice. Trades?
Think i may have seen this. Is it the blue one with metal 'safety flooring' type pickguard? If so it is very nice but im really after a sunburst so i can add a tort pickguard, chrome bridge and pickup cover for the old classic P bass look. Its actually what i sold to fund the RV4 and although i love it i really regret selling the P bass
It is yep. No problem mate. I really like the idea of an acoustic, so if I can sell the P bass, I may be back. Got my eye on another bass on here as well so depends which goes first hehe!
If you change your mind, let me know
BAD DESIGNS ok lets have em,
Bass cases, even 'fitted' hard cases, where simply putting the bass in knocks the end tuner. Only a minor problem I know, and I'd always check the tuning anyway, but it really annoying knowing that that one string will be out whenever you take it out the case.
Also cases which are way to bulky for the instrument inside - it offends my sense of efficiency.
Both of these I agree with 100%
Was just thinking this recently
