That looks fantastic... suitably different as well...

Does this have the fancy pick ups and filer EQ?
Wish I could've gone Uber, but sadly out of my price range, for now...
This has a PB split coil in the neck position and an RFB MM style pickup with coil switching in the "Sweet Spot".
The preamp is the new DFM one, but without the high mid/treble filter module, this one instead has two mid filters stacks, one per pickup and a passive tone with various switching options:
low mid boost, treble boost, active/passive and series/parallel/singlecoil for the RFB pickup.
Should keep me busy...

Can we get some sound samples please? :)

"Patience Danielsan, Focus Power".
But yeah, I'll try and get something done soon, still at work with the bass sat beside me in its lovely Fusion F1 bag/case. Its killing me not being able to just play it!

After a money scare recent this went up for sale, but something else is sold and I get to keep this.
Still does the round at rehearsals. The 33" scale and the weight make for long playing periods an absolute breeze. I will be changing the passive wiring that Alan prescribes to the traditional Vol, Vol and Tone. The rotary system is nice but something about either or systems bug me. And series switching isn't my thing at all.

Excellent news mate!
You still never posted some pics though ;)

4. I'm a flat board convert too, thanks to ACG.
Just feels right and helps promote "proper technique" too, I find with the traditional Fender style radius, I end up gripping the neck like a baseball bat, with my thumb over the top.
That combined with an asymmetrical neck profile, like BassBunny says, "heaven" :)

I'm in the good books at the moment , for her anniversary new smart phone that she had wanted for ages i fixed up a Corsa for her so she no longer had to share my crappy 307 when i'm not driving to work.

Unless anyone has a telebass inside my budget maybe i hold off and bank the gifts

I think one of these would be inside your budget >> http://basschat.co.uk/topic/196521-custom-telecaster-bass-build/

6. I'll second that motion.

How about looking at a custom bass, something you can pour a bit of yourself into?
You could see about basing some of the look, feel and sound on your beloved t-bird?
£1500 should give you enough moulah to start talking to some British based luthiers.
Either that, or maybe you should think about something a little more exotic? All the basses you've tried are more in the "trad" side of things. A trip to Bass Gear or Bass Direct might offer you a different experience.
My vote would be custom though ;)

Hm those standards look interesting - and very good value too.

I've played quite a few ACG J Type 5ers and they were very nice indeed, as an owner of an ACG 6 string, I can confirm that ACG make very good 6ers too :)
Definitely worth investigating I reckon.

8. ACG are doing a new series called "Standard", a 5 string 25 fret J Type for £1100, and a 6 string for £1175 >>

Specs here >> http://www.acguitars.co.uk/acg_admin/wordpress/standard-basses/standard-specification/
Quite a bit of customisation on offer, and completely hand made :)
Well worth a look I reckon.

Nope, the designer has posted regularly on TB and last I heard they are at pre-production sample stage, meaning field trials to confirm final build spec are happening, or about to very shortly. Sounds likes a realistic release date around NAMM (late Jan.) is in the works.

Nice one mate, thanks for chiming in. That IS good news.
That might give me enough time to save up for a MiniMega :)

Bit of a thread dredge and revival.

Anyone heard news about these amplifiers?

My hope of the minimax being released in the sub £200 category by the end of the year seem rather too optimistic.
Not heard a peep since the launch, its been a bit too long I reckon, I think they've probably put these heads to bed :(

11. Bass Direct have one of those Xotic J 6's inside your budget >>
http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Xotic_XJ6_Ash_maple.html

Just sayin' ;)

My only concern with the Ken Smith is that they have a pretty modern sound, which might limit your applications. You might want to consider something a little more versatile?...

12. You could speak to Newtone strings, they could wind strings to your requirements, using a thicker core than usual for better tension etc.
Dreadbass on here gets custom sets for his ACG basses, he goes down to E, the E below low E that is!
Would be a lot cheaper to try a custom set than buy a new bass...
