1. I played a load of the new Yamaha's at BassDay and really enjoyed them. I too under-rated them.

I think it might be something to do with their marketing weight being heavier on the cheap stuff.

  2.
I see what you mean. They might have an inductor on the bass drivers that would raise the impedance a bit above nominal, but it wouldn't raise it by a couple of ohms.

Not a bad idea, although I've already made the purchase.
I would imagine that they're suggesting that TC cabs that are rated at 8 ohms are actually measuring 8 or above, and that other manufacturers may be below.

It makes sense that they are covering themselves with a sort of margin for error with regards to other cabs.

  3.
Cheapest train - £170. I'd have to stay overnight too.
If it was in the summer I'd take time off and make a week of it but at the moment that's not really an option. Thanks for the advice though.
Does the other basschatter have a feedback thread? Or maybe ask to see if he/she has en eBay account with feedback?

  4. I think there are a couple basses that are almost a right of passage for any bass player, whether you like them or not!

    1. Musicman Bongo (although a big AL might suffice)
    2. Rickenbacker, any will do!
    3. Ken Smith/Fodera - as someone said, the birth of studio basses
    4. Japanese Jazz/Bacchus Jazz - You can really feel good craftsmanship!
    5. Sadowsky - I really do believe these are the best, most solid "traditional" style basses going.

  5.
isn't the V4 200 watts and the V6 and V8 400 watts? also these were around at different periods. the V8 was Gibson i think.

i appreciate the 3 BTA's will sound slightly different but ampeg have done well with just a 300 watt and 100 watts for 40 years. a good business model until recently. keep things simple. don't be a jack of all trades and master of none.

when people hear a bass on a 'rock' record it's more than likely going to be ampeg. they have their sound and ashdown do to a degree but they should keep it focused.
I hear you on that one but I've had this argument about Markbass stuff as well.

Surely as a consumer having more choice is a good thing? It makes no odds to me what the business is doing, if I've got more choice then I'm happy. They all sound good, I know that much so I'm struggling to see a downside.

  6.
Its more of a "No one can agree what my exact address is" problem.

Its just different names for the same place, the council think its "Flat, 93 Insert Road name here" I think its "93A Insert Road name here" and Equifax thinks its just "93 Insert Road name here" Which is the shop downstairs.
I had this problem a few years ago. Turned out it was actually to do with my national insurance number. Maybe go down down to your local job centre and make sure all is in line with your NI?

  7. I actually wrote an article on ashdowns range a few days ago. I don't think that having a large range is a bad thing, especially as a consumer.

  8. This has been done to death, Though I know you had no bad intentions Bubinga5!

All we say is that we dont allow commercial businesses to trade in the for sale section. If newbies want to join up just to sell then that just means more deals for the rest of us and that, ladies and gentlemen, Is pretty much that!
