Hi mate,

What's the string spacing on this?

Where abouts in Liverpool are you? would love to come and have a little play of it if that's ok?

    Cheers,

    Jake

You're more than welcome to pop by whenever Jake! I'm in the city center, just off old hall street. Got a surprising amount of time off work and Uni over the next few weeks so just let me know whens good for you! Not 100% on what the string spacing is, but I'll try and find out for you. Its a slightly "odd" feeling bass in the first instance as the pickups are a lot wider than standard P and J pickups so you find yourself opening your hand out a lot more if you're used to anchoring. Obviously less of an issue if you use floating thumb.

Oh how I'd love 5 minutes peace, have you been a fly on the wall at my house? Kids going nuts 24/7

I really can't afford it if I'm being honest Ste but would love to have a tinkle on it. Where are you in the 'pool?

  5. Hi guys!

Not been playing much recently, but I do fancy getting into DB a little, so I thought I'd throw this out there amd see if there's any interest.

    Quick rundown of the specs;

    5 piece neck
    45 degree string through body

Looking for £240 collected from liverpool or plus P&P

I'll get over one Monday when I can, it's been a while since I last played at Hannah's. Used to play on a Thursday sometimes with a soul/blues/funk band.

  7.
Hello all,

I have had my left handed bass for approx 20 years now. I got it for my 16th birthday, its a 70's Yamato copy of a Fender Jazz bass. (I think it may be one of those pesky Lawsuit guitars??) I've always looked really odd playing it, I'm only 4ft 11, so its practically as big as me. :)

Sadly its been in its bag more than plugged in, as due to a badly broken wrist about 5 years after getting it, I couldn't bend my hand enough play it for a long time, so it got loaned to my lefty cousin to use- at least it got some action!
I can play again now, and *just about* remember the notes to The Black Crows 'Hard to Handle' and some basic rock n roll, but thats it. I can't remember enough from way back when to play along with my boy, and don't have time to re-learn. :)

I have 2 left handed sons, so kept it in case they wanted to play, my youngest, 9, has taken up lead, though my daughter, who is 18, plays a 'normal' :D bass... (she's right handed).

I'm here because I have searched the internet, and can't find much, if any info about it. I have a friend interested in buying it off me, but without knowing its worth, I'm stuck! So I'm hoping you guys will have the knowledge I need.
There's enough geeks on here to help you out im sure! And massive kudos for getting the kids involved.

    Good luck and enjoy!

  8.
I really like these, even down to its cheaper stablemates such as the 414x etc.
There's just one thing that stops me getting one.
Why oh why does it have the 3 position switch? Who uses the J on its own? Really?!
If it were VVT or had a pan pot, it'd be fine. I could mod it, but my soldering skills suck, and my soldering iron's rubbish. I'd have to factor in the cost of parts, solder and a new iron. Suddenly a 414x doesn't look so cheap anymore :)
I have a 424 and the J on its own is plenty meaty enough. If you're used to 70's positioning then I can understand your hesitance. I'm pretty sure this is slightly further from the bridge resulting in a really tight but still useable tone.

  9.
So I bought an Aguilar GS 410 a few weeks back from a kind basschatter and have had it sitting in my house without hearing it since!

Today I received the call to say my Ampeg Skunkworks ltd. edition SVT was finished in the repair shop, fully revalved with new JJ 6550s and serviced with a whole lot of issues that I've been struggling with fixed.

Now I just got it home and, living in a flat, am unable to crank it... but I couldn't resist turning it up just a little and at volume '3' with the low mid set to 220Hz cranked. All I can say is OH MY GOSH!

I am playing tomorrow night and am ridiculously excited about this! I will post a full in depth review of joy when I return!

I'm just so excited that I had to post this!!!! Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Enjoy her! That sounds like a fantastic setup! Go on, give us a picture or two!

Some reservations as to whether the 1024 is worth the price hike over the 424... see posts passim.
I really liked the 1024x and ended up buying a 424... Value wise the 424s can be picked up at amazing prices, but the 1024 is a better bass IMO.

  11.
I use D-tuners on both my MIMs with no problems, and I know some have tuned theirs BEAD using the bottom four strings of a 5 string set with no issues apart from a slight nut tweak, so you should be able to drop the B to an A if required like Korn and Slipknot making it AEAD.
Heh, nut tweak.
