With us noone needs to get back. If you haven't crossed the date off on the bands Google calendar and something goes in, it's in, and your doing it or being replaced.

We do similar, but its a case of "if you're booked off, the band leader sorts a dep, if you are unavailable after the booking, you get a dep"

The problem now is that with the management team going from 3 to 1 (because apparently I don't contribute enough, and the git is too busy with work atm) the person leading the band wants us to just invite the band calendar to the events on our personal calendar.
Which is just rude and not very respecting fo my privacy. I dont want them to know if i'm booked in some nice hotel somewhere with the mrs, i just want them to know i'm busy. Yes I could create two events on my own calendar, but thats just makes my calendar look a mess.

I was sent to music lessons on guitar where I learned to read. The theory has been very useful (I don't know how people get by without knowing some theory) but I haven't read the dots for years.

What you find is that in a lot of cases people who say they don't know theory do know it by ear and can hear it but just don't know how to express it verbally

IPB files!? Not the PDFs suggested?

Not helpful

For some reason the basschat forum changed them all to ipb - each one has a pdf and a mp3 , and need renaming appropriately

For anyone else with problems, I uploaded this as a pdf, it is the Basschat website that turned it into an ipb file. Don't know why it does it and I wish it would stop but it's not up to me!

4. I appreciate you probably alreadyp layed the gig now, but what I do is as follows:

Create trello board - see this for example https://trello.com/b/yppn6J2D
Create cards on board for each song
Have a listen to each song on set list, give it a basic easy - hard rating (use labels on trello)
Go through each song and write out a chord chart for it, or intersperse it with tab. As you do, move it from first to second column.
is the band happy to have ipads on stage? If so then get something like "onsong" or "forscore" where you can transpose charts at a click of a button. I like onsong because you can use use tags to put tab into it as well (although it doesn't transpose tabs)

Go through starting with hardest songs and make sure you learn them. Throw some easy ones in too so you feel like you are making progress. It is very depressing if you dont complete some things early on. But generally start with hardest

5. Looking at it, looks like the same as https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.behringer.android.control.app.x32q&hl=en_GB for Allen and Heath?

I love the idea of personal mixes - one of the MD's who does theatre work round here uses a set of behringer personal monitors (see: http://www.music-group.com/Categories/Behringer/Signal-Processors/In-Ear-Monitor-Systems/P16-M/p/P0421 ) and it makes theatre pit playing an absolute joy.

I don't see any great problem with one guy owning the mixer/amp, and someone else owning speakers, stands, wires, etc. If the drummer wants a monitor, he can buy one for himself (though a fridge, washing machine or cooker may be a better way to spend his fags money).

If one person leaves, not so much gear to replace.

Personally, In this case i'd expect an extra 20-40 quid / band share/whatever per gig to cover costs of maintenance.

7. The solution of - whatever works for the band works for the band

Possible Solutions :

1. One person owns pa, agreed amount paid for every gig.
2. More than one person owns pa, agreed amount paid per gig.
3. Band funds soundman to bring PA to every gig. He either charges for his time and band owns PA (with appropriate agreement for in case of band split in place) or charges for time + PA.
4. Something that works for you.

8. Result: You are Paul McCartney!
Macca. The songwriting bass player of the most famous band in history. What else is there to say? Well, apart from forming the successful band Wings, writing with huge stars such as Michael Jackson & Stevie Wonder, and owning over 25,000 copyrights, he’s also an accomplished painter. Oh, and it’s Sir Paul McCartney to you.

Seem to be the first person to have this result.

another do you mic up the drums? if you do, don't ( maybe a bit of bass drum if you must) and set the other levels to match them, can never understand why bands mic up the drums for a small pub gig
Partly because the Kick tends to get lost quite easily
Can you not invest in a proper PA and run a quiet stage volume and high FOH volume? (ie mic guitars/etc)

10. Hi Peeps

Anyone know of a soundman around cambridgeshire area who would be willing to do regular gigs for a band?
We are a 5-8 piece ska band, and basically just need the following set up:

3 Vox mics (we have the mics i think)
2-4 Horn Mics
Mic stands for the above
Mixing desk
FOH
1 or 2 Monitor mixes (and monitors )
Your ears
Good sense of humour
You may also want mic for bass drum etc but up to you

We'd like to do a band share for it, which would typically be around 60-100 a gig. Typically 25 gigs a year.

I originally thought that too - although I suspect that ship has set sail already. Any company wanting that sort of channel count is going to be in the realm of digital - so a couple of cat5s does the job - at a significantly cheaper price also.

Indeed - although my thoughts are that it may be suitable for conference centres etc - places where there are likely to be permanently wired in fixtures?

Don't think i should compare basschat to guitarchat :)

One of the questions I asked before was on the cable strength - one of the things that is typically associated with optical fibre is a low flexural strength - that is it is prone to snapping with low radius bends in the cable - what is the tightest bend you can do with your cables? Are you able to do something like this:
