I was trolling the web looking for some inspiration and discovered Deon Estus.

Now putting aside any feelings for Wham etc, his bass lines are really cool.

What do you guys think?

Being fairly new to the Bass, I was looking for some (free) backing tracks.

This site has some pretty good tracks (79 listed) with key and in some cases chord progressions.

Great for beginners like me to improve techniques and practice with a beat!

Are there any other sites you would recommend?

I played guitar at 13, but switched to piano at 15 because of a pretty girl who I was at school with took lessons!

I had a big gap of about ten years before I picked up a guitar again (Eric Clapton influences).

Another gap, then when I was 40 my wife bought me a guitar and started me down the road again

I took up bass this year because of the acoustic duo I play in needed someting else!

Just lovin every minute I have a bass in my hand.....

I just love the fretless sound........

I just sold my Ibanez SRX700 thru neck 4 string.

I'm missing it already, but I have decided to go fretless and stick with it!

It was easy to play and looked the biz

Being a recent convert to bass, I only have four strings (the nice man in the shop said that's what a bass is.....)

I tried a 5 but the B sounded rather naff.

I will, when I can warrant it, buy a 5 if only so I can say "yeah, I have a 5 string!"

I use a Chorus because it was recommended to me. I like the sound (it is set quite minimally) but if the battery goes during a gig I am quite happy to remove it

well I play Bass and I play Guitar but I leave the tag to the audience!

I set off at 3:45 to go to Birmingham to see Jools Holland (my Christmas present from my daughter). I just returned as all the roads leading to the M40 from Aylesbury were closed by the Police

I am fairly new to the bass but already own three.......

The Rogue fretless I got for my 45th birthday has just got me into playing all the time!

I have since sold two guitars (a strat and one of my Parkers) to fund a bass rig.

I have three guitars out in the living room 1 bass 1 acoustic 6 string and 1 electric 6 string.

The rest are in their cases and tend to stay there

There is something about collecting guitars that is compelling!

I really enjoyed that. Who says direct action doesn't get results!

I just can't hear it!

I know I could get a monitor setup from the mixer but the tone is not that good.

I will probably get a small combo until I can afford something better

I sold a couple of guitars today on Ebay so my budget has gone up a tad!

tbh man a bass amp is a bass amp. I t doesnt really matter if your bass has frets or not. At 250 your not talkin bout investin in high end gear. but the bass amps above are the best you'll get for that budget. But if none of these impress you the try to pick up one of these second hand

I liked the ASHDOWN MAG-C115-300, it has some good reviews.
All the combo rigs seem to weigh around 30kgs so I think I will have to stick some wheels on it!

It's for both really.
At the moment, I have to go through the PA and that means I can't hear what I am playing because the speakers are in front.
I want to use the amp for the acoustic gigs until the electric stuff takes off.

I can then use it as monitor if we do big venues (not that likely!) or on its own.

It needs to be louder than the drummer!

I have around £250 in mind (second hand equipment is fine!).

Hi all, I have recently started playing bass after a fair while of playing in an acoustic duo. I decided to go fretless because I just love the sound. I am looking to get a gigging amp as I don't want to always play through the PA (as I do at present).

Any ideas (nothing too big or heavy) on something to compliment to fretless sound?
