A friend recently introduced me to someone else and said I was a musician. I'd only ever thought of myself as a bass player so when did I become a musician?
Well, you make music on your bass - so you must be a musician -

If only I looked like this -
This is why I play my own lines.
I only had a wireless
-
I say 'I am in a band'
They say 'are you the bass player'
er yes!
must be the eyes or the lack of strings. -
Well as I got no votes last time and I am not on Facebook..........
I will still have a go lol -

Maybe your not a Bass Player till you look like a Bass Player... .

I am short fat and bald.....
Does that qualify me as a bass player?
-
Most missed the question
I was asking when you personally think you are a bass player.
Doesn't matter what others think.
Just how you feel.
-
I have a lot of problems with my hands at the moment so I don't practice.
I rehearse with the band when we meet but that's about it.
Gigging is fun but it hurts after -

Apologies, I appear to have gained on you overnight. Somebody must have clicked the wrong button

Just me then lol -
Just me and Mr vader without a hope then lol

I play straight into the amp.
One day I may play with effects -

I don't really get too hung up about nailing someone else's bass line 100%. Sometimes I will play it note for note or do my own thing.
I play in a band that play a lot of Northern Soul, Stax and Motown. When I study the songs notice quite a few inconsistencies and mistakes by the player. Usually down to the fact that older songs were not tracked individually in the recording studio and the band would all play all together in one take, so these little mistakes happen. I find it hard to purposely make mistakes...but make plenty of them when I try not to!

I like this - it works for me -

I want a db but I don't think I have the resolve to practice enough

It is her birthday so no basses this time!
A wonderful woman but even I have limits -
I have spent the day in London with my other half
Still managed a visit to Wunjo bass lol
Will have a noodle when I get back. -
My wife gave up trying to block GAS and uses reverse psychology to get me to stop buying lol
-
Thanks for that. I did the same a while back and have just switched the sigs back on
-
Well, I know I will have to try a lot harder next month if there are only 24 voters out there!
-
I know the feeling. Don't let it get to you.
You know there was nothing wrong and I think that you will probably join the 'pick up only' club now!
Glad it turned out ok -
Probably nothing
It's just a technique to aid in speed and keeping finger position.
Or you can use your thumb
I often play a rake with my thumb nail but as JTUK says, you need to sort your damping out. -
Well I just watched Hendrix at the Isle of Wight festival.
He hardly played any of the same notes he laid down in the studio.
Billy Cox didn't play the Noel Redding notes either
.................
and so the discussion will rage on -

I couldn't get past the left hand glove with the missing finger. What is all that about?
The exercise is a bit contrived - I can play that just as fast using alternate index/middle all the way through without any rakes. The one in 'Sensitive' makes a bit more sense.

Hi Pete!
I think the video is for those who are maybe just starting out (I use his videos if I am not sure of a technique).
The rake is fairly simple so he only brushes over it. -

Dont mean to sound like an idiot, by where in the video is the "raking" bit. He is running through some scale exercises and bangs on about right hand technique? I cant see how that applies to my op?
At around 9 minutes he does a practical demonstration of a rake.
It is a plucking hand technique and nothing to do with slides at all.

Your idea of a contract worded as you have is ideal.
If both parties sign it, then you have a legally binding contract.
Deposits are standard when you hire a hall these days. I have hired our local village hall a couple of times.
Someone suggested that before you hand over the keys, get them to check with you that no damage has been done.
I would do this plus get them to sign a release stating all was well.
