2. Hi there. This is really just me indulging a curiosity but where do people stand on this? You see untill recently I've always played a 4 string. "Who needs the extra notes" said I, "just drop the D."! But then I started using open notes to get a specific sound and realised it'd be nice to have the extra string, so when I got a new bass I went 5 string. It's awesome! Not just the keeping stuff fretted but the strings being closer together has also proved useful, and also forced me to be neater. I just love it. Of course I'll never go to 6 strings, who needs it? Just move your hand up the fretboard So if anyone would like to participate in my little social study please do. Bob
3. Also having just re read my open in post I feel I was unduly harsh about the bass collection. My main issue with the bass colection is really that the set up on them is always shocking from new. Once you fix that you realise they're really not bad. Still prefer the warwick though!
4.
Welcome and enjoy. Sure you have seen them but this morning there were 2 superb Thumb basses on here for about £500, which I reckon is superb. Karl.
Thanks mate, I had seen those but decided in the end to speak to snarf and get his 5 string neck through Thumb. Beautiful. I am totaly in love.
5. Happy to pay in advance if i can wangle a lift (I live in st neots and don't drive). This looks awesome, just what I'll need after Christmas in retail!
6. The head I'm very proud of. The cab is actually sort of a project for me. The 15 in the bottom I designed (with some help admittedly) and built myself. It's got a flat frequency responce down to about 18hz and up to about 400. At the moment I'm working on a nid range cab with 2x8" tweeters and a compression horn to take it from 375ish to 1Khz. Then just 3x either 4" or 6" for the high pass. At the moment the 15 is connected only to the 500w without any crossover the plan is for the other 2 cabs to run of the 2 x 250W mid and high pass. The reason for all this fuss instead of buying stuff from Trace (and beleive me it's not that I think I can do a better job ). The head would normally be way out of my budget and I got lucky. I'm keeping it for the day I can afford something to really do it justice. Untill then I shall continue my lesson in loud speaker design. Oh and by the way don't you just love that with bass you can talk about 8" tweeters.
7.
Yo ! how's it hangin' ? i'm feelin that Cambridgeshire love ever since i f***ed off to Rutland.
Guessing that's a regional thing. I've only been in this county since march this year so not really sure what the rutland thing is about. It's hanging well though, thank you.
8. Hi everyone how's things? I'm from cambridge and have just found this place while looking for a new bass. I been playing bass now for about 14 years, barring a short interlude when I stuck the stem of a wine glass into my left hand and I like to think I'm reasonably good. I tend more towards adding bass lines to someone elses music than writing my own stuff but within that play a good variety of punk, ska, metal and good old rock and roll (60's and 70's mostly) with a bit of drum and bass if it's particulary well done. Oh and I love the chile peppers. I currently use a Trace Elliot RAH-1000 12 with a speaker cab which I designed myself. My bass however is... wait for it... a bass collection sb101 made in that mecca of musical instruments, south korea. And after 10 years of daily abuse it's dead. And I'm sad because it's been like a little yorkshire terrier to me, so full of enthusiasm and dumb love that I don't mind it occasionally peeing on the carpet. But it's now gone and the time has come... for warwick. Now I know they're not for everyone but every time I've tried one I've loved. No one will change my mind, and many have tried. So that's me. Also I tend to be a bit socially backward and don't usually get into forums and posting on them. If I breech etiquette in some way please be gentle with me.
9. Sorry, posted that last while at work and didn't read the original properly. Let me rephrase; having noticed that I can come and play it when would be good. My folks live near oxford so it's easy enough for me to get down.
10. Am looking for one of these but haven't played the 5 string before. Would be very interested if I could try it first. Is that possible and when would be ok?
