1. There seems to be quite a few cropping up on eBay for reasonable prices, I've seen many German made Corvettes go for less than £500, in fact I saw one go for £395 a couple of weeks ago, and I have sold two German made Corvettes recently for less than £500 in the past couple of years.

I think that any Warwick that is pre-2010 will be German made providing it's not a Rockbass.

It may well be that the stuff that "isn't quite right" simply means that someone else in the band can't play it! Unless the bass part is a real hook, you may be able to play a simpler version and most people listening would never know (there's been many threads on this subject before!).
If it's something that you just can't play at the moment, then the band have to live with that and move on and find some stuff you all can play, while you practice like mad until eventually you can play stuff like that (don't worry, that will happen), or tell you they don't think your good enough for the band which is most unlikely: there will be songs with guitar parts the guitarist can't play, songs the singer can't sing, and drum patterns the drummer can't get. That's just how it is in most amateur bands. Unless they're all seasoned 1st class pros and you're not, in which case you're screwed. (joke). The guitarist is never going to suggest things they cant play, likewise the singer won't suggest things they can't sing, and the drummer is unlikely to have any sensible suggestions anyway (also a joke). So perhaps your suggestions are a bit tough for them, and perhaps they're not as honest about their abilities as you are about yours!
And Icastle and gary mac are right: in a while you can revisit some of the songs you can't seem to play a the moment and you will surprise yourself.
Totally agree with this. unless you are all top notch muso's. we all have certain songs that we can't seem to nail, whether we are bassists, guitarists, drummers, keys, or whatever, most wont own up to the fact they are struggling with it, and will just say they don't like the song.

When I look back to when I first started playing which was about seven years ago, I was exactly the same as the OP and thought the band was suggesting songs with difficult bass lines on purpose, but a lot of the songs I struggled on then, I can now play note for note as per the original, and I now tend to play what I think works best with the way the other band members play the song.

Remember, there are millions of songs out there to be played, why beat yourself up trying to play something you just can't do at this moment in time, move on to another song, and continue practicing the one you can't play until you nail it, and then go back to them and suggest it at a later date. :)

  3. I spotted it as soon as it was listed, I put it on my watch list not expecting any bids above £50, but it's already had seven bids and is now on £250 with another five days to go.

I checked the serial number on the "Avery" labels attached to the bass, and this is the finding:

Your guitar was made at the Fuji-gen Plant (for Fender Japan), Japan in the Year(s): 1985 - 1986

    I don't think so!

It's a fair question. I bought it more than 20 years ago the same way people buy basses on this forum. There always isn't an opportunity to try an instrument before purchase. I recommend anyone thinking of buying one to try one.
Fair enough, I've bought basses without trying too, luckily, I've had some good ones.

    A question to the OP

When you spent all that money on the Rickenbacker, did you actually try it out first, and if you did, did you not notice the "horrible tone and lack versatility" at the time? because if it really was as bad as you say (and I don't disbelieve you), why on earth did you buy it?

Please don't think I'm starting an argument with you, I'm just curious.
And I'm still waiting to hear why he bought it in the first place, seeing as it was so bad. <_<

  8. RRP £69.99 but this totally useless guitar can be yours for the bargain price of £32

Question, who uses and pays for rehearsal space, pros, musicians on the road, younger musicians living in apartments with no attic or basement?

I have never played in a band that didn't rehearse in one of the members basement. Is that unusual?

    Blue

    Our rehearsal space.

    Blue
Basement? you wont find many basements in the "little old UK" Blue!
Unfortunately, most of us have to hire rehearsal studios to have a full session together. :(

  10. The OP was talking budget mics, and as I said earlier, I could hear no discernible difference between the Behringer and teh Shures, I was skeptical about them when I bought the first set, but once I started using them, I immediately sent off for another set.
For me, and a lot of other people on here, they are very good mics for the money.

It really depends on the OP's funds, we all have different budgets and needs, some people buy Wals and other high-end basses, while others are perfectly happy with Squiers and the like. :)

Just ordered the 3 pack of behringers xm1800s for £29.00 including case and free delivery. Cant beat that and also some great reviews on amazon as well as here.

    Cheers guys :)
You wont regret in Bonzodog.
They include the three mic stand adapter clips that are worth £10/£12 on their own, and they all fit nicely into a neat little case. :)

The packet of three Behringers are the XM1800S - don't know how they compare to the XM5800 but we have them and have used them as the main vocal mics with no problem. £32 for the three.

I have TWO packs of these which I use with my Zoom R16 recorder, I have compared them side by side with my Shure SM57 and SM58 with vocals and instruments including my acoustic guitars, and the is no noticeable difference that I can hear, they are as sturdy and reliable as the Shures, so if you can get past the name, you wont regret spending between £25 - £30 for THREE of these superb mics.

Unbelievable value at less than a tenner each!!!
