Thanks for the clarification. I suppose it makes sense, although given the fact that the total number of posts in Off Topic (approaching 800,000) far outweighs most other forums on Basschat, it obviously shows where most of the chat takes place. No worries, to be fair I wanted as much to check if there may have been any issues which then got me wondering what my actual total count should be.

@ped and I keep discussing a NEBB

In certain subforums postcounts don't change

I paid you a tenner extra in toilet at the St Ives one - that was what you were short .
It would've look well dodgy if anyone had've come in at that moment - he he
Haha! I had forgotten that!

Wow, that was truly heartwrenching to read.
However, it's worth remembering that while basslines that you used to play may currently be out of reach you may be able to play with a single finger?
I would say not to give up. Motivation and determination are the key to any success

Will you be making a return this year?
Any pointers?
Make sure you have adequate plug sockets!
Having a square room is nice but having multiple rooms or awkward shaped rooms is actually better from the perspective of noise
Get along some local manufacturers or similar
People are always too polite to open the hobnobs. You'll need to do this for them
If you have food or drink, ALWAYS have something on hand for the inevitable spill
If possible have something to break up the day and set areas for people to demo stuff. If anyone can provide a headphone amp that can really give you the chance to create a demo area
If possible get cash upfront, I had to cover costs myself after no-shows at one event

Really, I didn't know that there had been any.
Yep, I hosted two of them
One in St Ives and one in Somersham a few years back. Decent turnout but I couldn't find the time to keep it up

Btw this will be the 3rd EABB 😛

Big, full screen ads work against the advertisers far more than they work for them. Every time when of these pops up, more users install an ad blocker that blocks all ads on all sites.
As someone who used to produce on-line ads for a living I can't see any advantages to them. Does anyone ever click on them other than to try and remove them from the screen. @charic maybe you should ask the company serving the ads on Basschat what the click-through and completion percentages are for full-screen ads. I suspect they are going to be very low and negligible, respectively.
Conversion rate can sod off I hate the pop-ups and think they cheapen the site.
They're also still not complying with Ad-size which we've been pretty prescriptive with.- 1

To say the least Ped is bugging the advertisers regularly.
We have stated on multiple occassions "no pop-ups" and it's taking a while to get it through...
Out of our hands at this point in time, other than making loud shouty noises

Shouldn't have changed during the update, although there's a possibility that the software providers have taken a stance of "better safe than sorry" if they were implementing new security measures to cater for GDPR more eloquently and didn't have an effective way to translate from the previous version to the current.
I know that certain countries have particularly harsh rules regarding "opting in" to emails and these can be a bit of a moving target.
Unfortunately, we need to keep up to date with the software updates until I manage to write my own forum software or we risk serious security breaches and falling too far behind to be able to update. We do discussing building our own forum software, but it's going to be one HELL of a project to get to a point where we're able to do that.
Apologies if this has changed from the update, I wasn't made aware from the update notes. @ped has kindly offered to help you get back to where you need to be

At the bottom of my page even as we squeak there is a Boots ad, that’s Boots the Pharma Giant... WTF. And now it’s gone.
Why don’t you just come out with it, and tell us you’ve gone all commercial FFS?
You should install ad blocker, it will keep your browsing experience ad free.
It basically does the same as Nivea No7 does for spots! Available at your local Boots retailer!

Since the last update I've started receiving a message asking me about accepting cookies. I am quite happy to accept those which keep me logged in on Basschat, but not so keen for any for 3rd parties like advertisers. When I click on the Cookie Policy tab at the bottom of the screen I get the following message:
Sorry, there is a problem
The page you requested does not exist
Error code: 1S160/2If you are going to have a Cookie Policy it needs to visible and ideally if there are Cookies beyond those required for the basic functionality of the Basschat forum they need to be individually listed with what they do, and the option for users to opt out.
Also since the recent update when I view a thread on my iPad the column width defaults to portait width even when I have the screen in landscape orientation, which means that a third of the screen is wasted with blank space and I because the width stays as Portait I don't automatically get the increased text and interface size,.
It would be great if you could find a way of re-instating the old way of displaying the site. Thanks!
I think that display thing is because a sidebar ad is being forced in even if there is no sidebar. It's another thing on my grievance list with the advertisers at the moment

I'll be glad when this is sorted out.
The small Rotosound/Elixir etc.type banners at the top of the screen were fine but I don't like the new system - I'm getting ads popping up every time I open a new topic / change forums etc.. In some cases taking up the whole screen. Infuriating and very annoying
Chris
Hi Chezz,
Yes completely agree. This is the result of a new advertising service attempting to optimise our performance. It doesn't seem to have worked in the first instance to say the least!
We're waiting for ducks to get in a line their side I'm afraid -
They won't be anywhere near this offensive once ducks are in a line
Adverts should be helpful, not annoying. That's what we're working towards!

A new one I'm afraid

Well the elixir one doesn't seem so bad anymore
We're working on it I promise! But waiting to hear back and unless they're slow replying I don't want to take it offline so that they can debug it.
After a short settling in period we should start to see much more relevant ads too. More inline with what the site is actually about, or in cases even the particular thread- 1

Same here.
Also seeing huge adds all over the screen on my ipad.
We're attempting to use a new advertiser. Unfortunately it looks like there's going to be a bit of a bedding in period while they sort out the code

Hi HappyJack,
Yes mine was affected too. Seems to be a symptom of the site upgrade unfortunately. We never seem to catch a break on these things! -

If you need some pointers give me a shout (no longer in EA!) -
The search functionality is pretty locked down as best as I understand. Will have a tinker and see if there's a way though
