Has anyone tried these? I'm not a big fan of coated strings, but the blurb says that they feel like uncoated ones.
I might give them a go, as I like to give different brands a try

Chas himself was a bass player. In fact, he played on a lot of early 60s Joe Meek recordings.

At present I`m in a non-gigging classic rock band and my fave songs to play are Tarot Woman & Stargazer by Rainbow, Highway Star by Deep Purple, Fool For Your Lovin` by Whitesnake and Dazed & Confused by Led Zep. After years of playing solid/powerful root note punk I relish a bit of spider-finger riffery!
We do a couple of AC/DC covers which are are basically root note plodders.
I tried to to make them a bit more interesting by adding a few fills etc.
Unfortunately, it didn't work with those songs. So I guess less is better in that case.

I quite enjoy paying Alive by Pearl Jam. Its not overly tricky to play, but I like doing it.
Also London Calling and Black Night I get a kick out of playing.

Bought a 1978 Fender Precision from Nick. Great comms and kept me updated on the tracking info.
Would deffo deal with him again, and would recommend him to other Basschatters. 👍

I bought this lovely looking bass earlier this year, but I cant get on with it.
I have tried to love it but I just cant bond with it. I have never gigged it or used it for more than a few hours.
Comes with with original GG case and accessories.
It has been set up this morning with Ernie Ball super slinkies and plays fantastic.
I hope someone from here can give the love and attention it deserves.

Sky Arts tonight Friday June 21st, 8pm to 9pm.
Crowded House, Isle of Wight Festival 2024.
I missed that. I wouldn't mind seeing it again if they repeat it. But it is not on tonight's schedule .Do they often repeat these shows on Sky Arts ??

Some schools and musical charities with little to no budget used to take old strings to put on guitars, basses. I wonder if they still do..

There is a lady on youtube called Ryan Madora.
She teaches some excellent basic beginner blues bass lines. I've been watching her for a while, even though I play that stuff fairly well, I still like to watch her videos.

I have been looking around for a padded bag or case to put my little mark Black line 250 in.
There is an official markbass one that goes for about £60. But a lot of places don't have it in stock.
Has anybody got any suggestions for something that will do the job?

What happened to change their minds?
Good tactics should be shared too!
I think some of the punters who enjoyed it sort of 'encouraged' them. 😉

Well, we finally got paid in the end. However, a few of the punters have refused to drink in there again.
There was no agreement about payment based on bar receipts as far as I know.

Well, In 40 years of playing, Tonight is a first. We were booked to play The Brickhouse in Slough. The first rock band to play there apparently. Its more of a soul R+B DJ place.
We went down really well with the older crowd, but when it came to paying us, we were told 'Sorry but people have not spent enough behind the bar so we cant pay you the full agreed amount'
Our singer is practically fuming with rage and trying to sort it out. I have heard of this happening to others, but this is the first time I have been shafted.
I,m having a few large scotches to calm me down. 🤬

Jaco... I don't really like fretless bass. I don't like burpy bridge pickups soloed. (I mean, who wants to listen to burps?!?) I can appreciate the musicianship, but I really don't care for what he does. It doesn't speak to me at all.
Yes. Its a lot of notes played very fast. I'll probably get booed off now by Jaco fans. 😅

We rehearse at Powerhouse in Addlestone and the M25 junction 11 is always closed late at night when I'm on my way home back up to the m4 junction. This is the final straw. 😖

I once played a dep gig for a friends band. The lead guitarist brought his friend along who was introduced as Owen. The guitarist said that he was a musician too.
He was a nice chap and played a few songs on guitar with us. It transpired that he was Owen Paul who had a single out back in the 80's called 'My Favourite Waste Of Time'

The Mama and Papas, known for their pounding double kick drums.
And is that actually a portrait of the drummer himself on the kickdrum skins?
Thats renowned session drummer Hal Blaine. As far as I remember those pictures are of 60's surf rockers Jan and Dean 😁

A bass-playing angel suggests itself!
Yes. I suppose it would. 😉

They also recently introduced the Fender American vintage II models, although they are much cheaper than the custom shop.

Has any Song Totally Defeated You?

I really struggle to get the timing right on the intro to Sex On Fire. I can never come in at the right time. The bassline itself is simple enough, its the timing that throws me off.
