1.
Why do punks only have one knob?

No, hold on, it's not a joke...just an observation. The Tom DeLonge Strat is the same as this bass. No tone control, just volume. Is that cos they rip the tone off in a fit of punk rawk?
didn't the mark hoppus sig bass only have a volume control ?

mind you, i've heard it said that removing the tone control reduces the loading on the pickup and so gives a clearer sound...more boutique than punk if you ask me...

  2.
I honestly cannot remember but I went out and bought a bunch of similar sized computer cooling fans from Maplin and tried them, found one that was lower in noise and used that. It is not a difficult modification, strip the back fan clip off and you can fit a new pair of fans, one for each side of heatsinks.
cool - thanks for the advice.

i'm actually thinking of getting a second hand, fanless power amp for home use...i do find the fans a little oppressive at times.

  3.
I have amongst other poweramps, a Soundtech Ps802. I like 1U amps and have various makes of 1U amps. I like the Soundtech, it does what it is supposed to do, but beware the fans make a bit of noise. I changed my fans and they are still audible. Not that your audience will hear it but you will.
what did you swap yours for ?

it's something i'd be interested in trying

  4. at work they when the bosses have meetings they drink some kind of posh bottled water that has the same closures as grolsch bottles.

they normally leave the tray with the drinks finished bottles outside the meeting rooms when they're done...

i've acquired a few washers that way :)

  5.
Everyone seems to have missed the most important point about using open strings - the more open strings you use, the more time you have to wave your hand in the air making rock/metal symbols! :)
you're not wrong \m/

i don't avoid playing open strings, but somethimes they're just a bit easier.

and i agree with what's been said about playing fretless...you need them imho to keep things in tune.

  6. hmmm...that's interesting.

i bought a bashed up jazz bass a while back with the intention of stripping it and doing it up (not got too far on that....but that's another story...) and i reckon it must be a maya looking at the pics above.

it was painted really badly with house paint, so the logo wasn't visible.

nice to know what it is though...

  7.
Have a look at the soundtech stuff from smartsound direct.
plus the one...

good amps and the best service i've had from an online/mail order firm.

  8. the boss obd3 bass overdrive has been described as very industrial-sounding...admittedly not in a 100% good light, but it might be worth a try out.

it was too much for me, but a very fuzzy tone - it has the blend function and 2-band eq too.

  9.
It has 3 knobs, volume, saturation and shape. Volume does what it says on the tin, saturation is the amount of fuzz and 'bite', and shape seems to bring in more and more bass. With shape and saturaion on full, it can be a little glitchy, but the amount of bass frequencies is amazing.
sounds like you're having a lot of fun with it !

what do you mean by glitchy ?www.wrenandcuff.com

  10.
anyone thought about the samsamp?
    theres now a programable version!!
as a distortion pedal i thought the sansamp was pretty poor. it's on or off iirc, no grind.

  11.
i went out to get some earlier and some tins of spray contact adhesive for a mate to stick his studio carpets down - so i didn't bother buying my stuff and just used that instead.

Sprayed it to both the hexboard and the velcro and put it back in place - seems to have done the job nicely! Cheers all
just a word of advice about spraymount-style adhesives...use them outdoors ! the glue flies around and gets everywhere

  12.
always thought this was quite nice:

i'm not normally a fan of tapping, but that's really nice. it's restrained...not like the showy stuff people usually do.
