1.
Just found out tonight that i have a gig this weekend so I'm going to see if using just one cab on its own without PA support is going to be loud enough

I had intended buying a second one but let's see how I get on with it on its own against the Jim Carey of the drumming world (I am the Jim Carey of the bass world :) ) and a phenomenal guitarist who plays a Les paul through a Peavey 5150 2x12" combo
Afternoon. Just wanted to ask how the cab went last night? (Still toying with the idea of getting the Nexus cabs for some time in the future.)

  2. Here's mine:

    Musical Enthusiasm: 96% (High)
    Musical Perception: 56% (Medium)
    Emotional Connection: 51% (Medium)
SOCIAL (WHY did I put Musical? ;-))Creativity: 80% (High)
    Musical Curiosity: 71% (Medium)

Group The Music: I matched ALL 4 of the Jazz clips.
Match The Beat: 14 out of 18.
Tap To The Beat: 6 with High Accuracy, 3 with Medium Accuracy.
Melody Memory: 10 out of 12.

    Not too bad I think.

  3.
I've got no experience with Berg or Purple Chilli I'm afraid, I do know that I found Aguilars (both the DB and GS series) to go deeper than the warwick :)
Fair enough. Thanks for that!

  4.
thats a lovely Les Paul, wish Gibson made their basses that pretty.

Im really considering the orange head with 210. I dont overly enjoy the prospect of luggin the ampeg gear around at gig time!!!!!
I'm probably missing something here, but when did you flog the Porta Bass rig?

  5. Did any Bass Chatters go to see Sonic Youth in Manchester last night? If so, did you enjoy the gig? Or do you have any thought about Kim Gordon and/or Mark Ibold?

BTW, For anyone going to/who went to the London NYE show, let us know your opinions. Ta!

  6.
I used to own one of these. Great tone but wasn't as deep as some other 12's i've heard :)
If you don't mind me asking, which 12" cabs are deeper sounding? Aguilars? Bergantinos? Purple Chillis? (I AM actually interested in which lightweight 12" speakers are the best sounding. To the best of my knowledge, the Warwicks use the same Celestion drivers as Purple Chilli/Zoot cabs.)

  7.
hello all

what you have to say about this cabinet?
i have a nice deal whit one. €150 for one of that cabinet.

is this cabinet good for a stand alone?

ps: sorry for my bad english.
As I have 2 Warwick Neo Pro 12"s, I'd say the price is VERY good. However, it all depends on if you are just going to use 1 cab or 2.

If you are just going to use it on it's own, you need an amp head that won't put out over 300 watts @ 8 ohms, as you don't want to risk blowing the speaker. Having a compressor and/or a limiter on the amp helps too. There are plenty to choose from though. E.g. Hartke HA3500, Ampeg B2R-E, Laney RB9, Ashdown Mag EVOII, Genz Benz Shuttle 3.0.

IF you can get 2 though, you'd have a nice 600 watt 4 ohm rig that would cover most gig situations AND you could get plenty of decent and powerful amps.(Ampeg SVT Pro 3, Hartke's HA5500 or LH500, Orange Terror Bass-though this has no compressor or limiter, Warwick's Pro Fet 5.2 or Xtreme 5.1.)

    Hope that helps!

  8. Wasn't looking specifically for basses. I was looking for the amps. E.g. Status Quo's bassist using a Trace Elliot head with an Ampeg cab. Though I do believe I saw Martin Kemp of Spandau using a Wal and John Paul Jones playing an old school Ibanez Roadster.(I.e. Not the ones used by Sting or laterly Husker Du's Greg Norton.)

  9.
Looks like Pete Turner of Elbow has stopped using Ashdown - Mesa (Carbine?) rig here: Build A Rocket Boys
And first time I've seen him with (70's) P bass...
If you look on You Tube, you'll see that Mr Turner's used that P Bass since the video for "Grounds For Divorce". An old friend of mine was supposed to buy that bass from a guy who owned it @ Beehive Mill in Manchester. However, his £30 deposit was trumped buy a large cash payment by the Elbow boys. Think it's gone to a good home personally!

Oh, and the Mesa Rig looks and sounds superb!

My God! Brendan Canty was so young AND skinny back then! (Only ever seen him play on Bob Mould's "Circle Of Friends" film as a point of reference.) Might have to go find some more Fugazi stuff!

Anyway, just to get back to the topic. "Gouge Away" & "Gigantic" by The Pixies are dead simple to learn by ear and great to play in case you haven't tried them already.

  11. I must say that having had a look at these cabs, the 4x10" cab looks like a cracking option. (Same weight as a Laney Nexus 4x10" and considerably cheaper.)

This could be a possible DREAM stack for me if I added the 2x12" cab later!

  12. My basses are currently strung with Rotosound roundwounds. (105/85/65/45 on my Yamaha & 105/80/65/45 on my Steinberger.) Sound good, not too pricey & British company. I also have a set of Picato strings too, which are 105-45. Bought these in a music shop in Cornwall after yaking with the owner, who was alos a bass player and gave them the thumbs up. They're British made too in think.(In case anyone should think this sounds jingoistic at all, I use Ernie Balls on my guitars.)

  13.
Probably the same as Ashdown... :)

Erm...I guess the HyDrive ones are the best ones to use if I did opt for the Hartke but am open to any suggestions!
Well that'd be an excellent choice. Tbh though, I was only asking in case you were planning to use your prospective amp with your current cabs. I think You'd be risking blowing the speakers if you used the LH500 with the Ashdown MAG cabs as-dependent on how long you've had them-they only have a 250watt headroom @ 8 ohms; and I'm not sure you can wire the cabs in parallel to make a 4 ohm cab.

If it helps, I link my 12"s, so I've got a 600watt 4 ohm cab, so I've got plenty of head room.(With just one of my cabs, the Hartke might blow it as it exceeds the cab headroom by 50watts.)

No idea how size, weight, cost or no. of speakers might effect your decision on what to purchase, though any 4x10" over 400 watts @ 8 ohms should cover all eventualities.

That's the end the essay then! ;-)

  15.
Is it bad that I don't recognise any of the bassists or bands mentioned so far? :)
There's always You Tube, Myspace & iTunes to remedy that! ;-)

Some good stuff picked so far. I'm dead pleased Amplifier are still going!
