I'm very happy with it! It plays and sounds great as it is, and a cleanup, wax polish and oiled fretboard did wonders for the looks:

It's quite unusual to get Bubinga with that kind of figuring on an eighties Thumb.  It's a real special example, congrats!

'To be fair on you, Chris did say it had just sold when I called the shop originally but I was very pushy, prepared to pay more and I rarely take no as an answer so you can blame me!'

I can't see the discussion, but my word, being a gent would be an absolute struggle in response to that if it was me.

Not great is it. That buyer in the US might have just lost out on his dream bass. Shame on the shop. Imagine if one of us had bought a bass there only for them to renege on the deal and sell it to a higher bidder, proper name-and-shame moment.

You know, I totally didn't pick up on this part of the story, got distracted by the almost-bargain aspect.

Yeah, that's gross, from both parties but mainly the shop for me for agreeing to it.  They haven't come out well from this at all.

  4. I've had a play with it now, was expecting more of an overhaul of the UI given the move from 10 to 11 but I guess I'm happy its mostly just polished here and there.

Had a go of the stem splitter on one of my own tracks, and I'm actually really impressed with how the drums and vocals came out in a pretty dense metal mix.  Bass not very useable and having everything else lumped as "guitar" is a shame, but it has potential.

I feel for this to have any value it has to be factual,

    1. I did ask for a valuation in 1st post, it was a mistake on my part.

I had been off site for many years due to my illness and just wanted some advice. I guess I just wanted to converse bass with someone like you do in a bar or a bus stop.

    2. The warning was issued and acknowledged by me.

    3. A person advised if I cut out the pics and any mention of sale it would be OK, I could then ask for advice.

I asked what section and was told General Discussion.

    4. I followed this advice and put up an edited 2nd post as advised. This was subsequently removed without any explanation.

    5. Assumptions were made that I was trying to gain a sale by avoiding the £7 fee which was DEFINITELY NOT the case, I just wanted to get some ideas and pointers and CHAT BASS.

    6. Some posts go up supporting my position and some post go up saying the rules have to be followed which is fair enough, we live in a democracy.

    7. The point is, being housebound and seeing only my family for 2 years I just wanted to chat about bass (it's called bass chat I thought) and maybe pick up some knowledge along the way. Yes I do want to sell one of my P basses but this WAS NOT the intention of the 1st post!

If you can get out to see people, go to gigs or God forbid play bass at gigs then good on you........ I used to be able to do that!

    8. These are the FACTS and I cringe when certain people make assumptions and say 'I'm just following rules'

    9. To the members who could see I wasn't trying to cheat the system a big thank you!

    Nick

The thing is Nick, I'm struggling to see why you appear to have any animosity with the Basschat Admin/Mod team.  We explained the situation to you as you have now acknowledged, you unfortunately followed some bad advice from a non-moderator on here which caused us to have to act again.  You have not been accused of anything by the team, and our informal warning text is very clear to highlight this and offer help, but somehow you appear left with a negative opinion with us and how the site is run, which I think is what is causing such confusion and frustration with Ped and the rest of the team.

If that's what actually happened - i.e. the thread was removed with no explanation given - then it's no surprise the OP raised another one. Perhaps a better response might have been a mod post in the thread restating the forum rules about valuation, and then a thread lock? That's transparent, and it would've been a useful reminder to everyone else who'd responded to the thread as well.

Of course this is just my 2p, with none of the facts to hand 😉

He would have received the full explanation that has been reposted a couple of times in here.  If he didn't receive this, then this is a bug we can look at for him if he lets us know, but it shows at our end as sent and acknowledged. :)

Unfortunately, like many forums, rules like this have to be in place i'm afraid, site runnings costs sadly don't pay for themselves, and it is still an AWFUL lot cheaper to sell stuff here than certain other online marketplaces ;)

    This is grim reading.

I’m all for following the rules but this really doesn’t reflect well on this forum. Signing off for a while.

This is sad, and very confusing, to read, especially from a Supporting Member.

If we are missing something collectively here guys, please do say, as at present it just seems the consensus in this thread is that we should have allowed this one valuation thread, for reasons not current obvious to anyone on the team?

If you read my last post I admitted I made a mistake, I didn't read the rules, I was rightly warned.

Whoever is moderating this is making assumptions, assuming I'm trying to avoid the £7 fee by selling by another means, when all I'm actually doing is asking a question to start a debate to try to get to know how to go about achieving my goal (Ebay, FB, take it to a shop, on here etc.)

If it's just the £7 that's causing all this I'd happily pay that for advice.

But it looks like 'they've' made their minds up and (imo) unfairly judged me.

You live and learn, there are a lot of people on this thread who've commented to try to offer help, to these people THANK YOU.

I'm not sure if there are miscommunications here, but the issue really is as simple as the rules of the forum do not allow threads requesting valuations for equipment outside of the subscribers members only sub-forum that has been linked to in this thread.  The reason is people (not necessarily you!) have been known to use valuation threads as a way of getting gear sold without paying to be a supporting member.  It isn't personal and shouldn't be viewed as such, you will only get formally warned if you repeatedly break the rules after its been pointed out to you.  Best advice is to take advice from the mods/admin team and not members :)

To view the forum in question, you need to be a Supporting Member, which is £20 per year.  The £7 price is to post a single sales ad, which I do not believe makes you a supporting member.

I've been criticised on there for "talking down prices".

Lots of collectors. One reason the price is so high is that the prices keep going up.  It's a tragedy as so few good bass players can afford one, let alone dare take them out for a play.

My fretless custom is out every week, it gets bashed a bit, I don't care; I'm not going to sell it ever.

Great basses, but not THAT great.  And the vaunted Rush and Tool connections are bogus as neither Mr Lee nor Mr Chancellor sound like they're playing one ( all effects and Geddy's weird low action light string setup).  Flea, yes, BSSM has MK2 Wal all over it.

I feel like its come down from the absolutely bonkers days of £10k basses appearing everywhere, which is about the time I left that group.  Any much more than £6k seem to hang around for a long time at the moment, which gives me hope.

I just wish Wal would change their strategy and get a team of builders in and start pumping more out, just to see the collectors panic.  I really loved the sound of my MK2 (huge BSSM tone fan) and have never been satisfied by a "clean" tone since, but I hated everything else about the bass.  V neck profile, distance between strings and body, thumb anchoring, all not me at all.

Perhaps I'm just forever bitter for selling it for £3.5k....

  10. Wouldn't surprise me if half of the enquiries this bass had was from Wal owners, keen to tell the shop keeper that they need to increase the price.  From my days in the Wal group on Facebook, my word they don't like any notion of the sky high prices of the basses being threatened...

A shame the bargain never happened, but congrats on the new bass Max!

If the drop tune is done by digital processing, the laws of physics are going to be against you no matter how or what you play.

Modern digital processing is more than capable of rendering a very decent drop tune, to a higher standard than anything analog?  Though I'm not sure of your context.

  12. So my signal chain is bass > Gallows Sidechain in/out > Quad Cortex, with the main in/out of the Gallows in an effects loop.

The fault, when it appears, happens when a note is left ringing out for a few bars and, to my ears, the gate kicks in and lowers levels too soon, with the LED indicating that's what it's doing too (it changes colour when the gate is open and closed).  As I say, it could be in my head as I have never managed to recreate it on purpose, and I do have the gate turned up high to make the gating action as hard and choppy as possible, which could be related too.  I've gigged it for a couple of months without any problem, its only during bedroom noodling I've experienced it.

  13. So whilst I have continued to use this pending sale (the Quad Cortex update is still pending!) I have noticed a potential intermittent peculiarity with its gating action.  I don't know if I'm imagining it, especially given the choppy nature of the gate design, but very occasionally whilst playing, the gate seems to kick in a little early i.e. begins to close even when I'm sure I'm playing above the threshold.  Whenever I notice this, I attempt to recreate it and can't!  Sweet as a whistle for the rest of the session.

I'm not sure if there is an intermittent fault with the pedal, or the fault lies elsewhere in the chain, but I can't sell this on as fully working in good faith.  So I'm dropping this right down to £45, if anyone wants to give it a go!

I'm not sure that 'hate' is the right word, for me at least. My tastes in music could be described as 'eclectic', but with some notable exceptions, one of which is 'big beat', '1-1-1-1-...' Disco EDM, often accompanied by megatons of over-production. The tasteless lighting, stroboscopic flashing and incomprehensible choreography, each vying with the other to shock, don't inspire me to much more than reach for the 'off' switch. It's true I'm not in the target demographic, and I've never understood the 'disco' craze, either (as a technicien, I've installed too many disco lighting and sound systems to be impressed...), as I don't (read 'can't'...) dance, and don't drink anything stronger than Earl Grey (and even that's weak, when I make it...). 'Hate'..? No; if other folk derive some pleasure from it all, let 'em fill their boots, but don't try to tell me that it's 'quality music', 'cos it's not. It's forgettable pulp, throw-away nonsense that, for almost all of the 'songs' presented, will never be heard of again. To have anything visual needed to 'sell' the stuff says a lot. None of the 'songs' will ever have a performance with that same, or anything like close, backdrop. It's not a problem; it's all forgotten until next year, when, like the Christmas baubles for the tree, the band-wagon is rolled out again. So, Eurovision..? Whatever... :|

    Yup, it's not for you!

Do I look at it from a quality of musicianship point of view? No.  I listen to progressive metal in my spare time, so eccentric pop isn't my bag.  It's the whole performance, staging and production that entertains me, and if you can criticise particularly the latter two, I don't know what to say! 😅  To do what they do live, it's really impressive, year after year.

  15. Great show, production was outstanding, no idea why people hate on it so much.  Loved Ireland, Norway was great and Croatia surely should have won.  Switzerland was pretty bang average, no idea how they managed that.

UK was DREADFUL and over-performed really thanks to the jury vote.  The staging was decent but really didn't mask how bland a track it was.

And it's not all about people hating the UK, look at 2 years ago, if Putin hadn't have united the world behind Ukraine, we would have comfortably won it.

  16. Option paralysis is a rubbish waste of time, but the idea that i'd buy something else that may be inferior just so I don't have the option to potentially sound better seems a bit silly?

Why not just get a set of really good stompboxes? The advantage of MFX like the Stomp is that you can select a particular emulation of each effect whereas with this, if (say) the chorus isn't what you want, that's just tough luck. If you're not using presets then you've done away with the only reason for using this and not separates.

I guess its cost.  The boss unit is really quite cheap compared to modern day pedal prices.

I haven't heard any complaints so far in any reviews I've watched on YouTube.

Because they wouldn't be paid to do any more reviews for the company if they expressed any ;)

  19. I'm sure it's gotta be 99% emperor's new clothes for those who are upgrading.  I'd definitely go for a V2 if I was in the market for a comp, but never if I already had a V1.  The metering is nice, but also in an odd way an admission you didn't really know how to set it before? 😅
