1. Please write in and support the Globe in Cardiff Send your thoughts to: Paul Shone. Operational Manager, Licensing & Strategic Services. Cardiff Council, City Hall,. Cathays Park, Cardiff, CF10 3ND The situation: Our new and brilliant venue is under threat. The Globe, Cardiff is a venue created from a long shut small cinema in a cool area of Cardiff (must be, I live there) It's a great gig to go to as an audient but also as a player. Pete Academy is plying there in a few weeks with Nearly Dan, Rich with the Soul Destroyers in the Spring (I hope). We've had The Hamsters, Seth Lakeman, Johnny Winter, Blockheads, Otway, we have Oli Brown, the Blues Band and loads of others coming .. and that's just he old fart music. Various other really cool events have happened there for youngsters, local bands, open mics, folk, blues, drum n bass etc .. However.... Two people have complained about the noise and that's enough to get its licence revoked. Fortunately the appeal against the decision brings a stay of execution for a few weeks, maybe as long as the new year. This MAY give the owner time to save for and implement the long planned extra sound proofing and make it OK again. So, if you want to play a great venue in Cardiff, please consider writing to the guy above to express your opinion. We're sympathetic with the people who can hear the music in their homes but totally support giving The Globe time to react to the problem and sort it out. They are not ignoring the inconvenience they are causing but need a little time to implement the plans. We lost The Point early in the year in similar circumstances and to loose The Globe as well would be a tragedy for arts and culture in Cardiff. You can copy these points if you need to... If you are physically in the Globe they have a petition but individual letters and cards will always have a bigger impact than a signature on a petition. Thanks, people ...
 2.
Oh, aye.. if you can , set up right next to the drummer and watch him like a hawk.
The one big tip I picked up from a deppin' thread recently was that drummers tend to take a big breath before a "feature" like a roll or whatever. And the drummer's features happen at marker points in the tunes so yup, watch the drummer, and the singer and the guitarists hands, and your large black ink floor-mounted cheat sheet ... all at once
 3.
I got a pair of ER20's just in time for a dep gig over the weekend with the loudest old-skool blues band I have ever heard. Great, great fun, but without the ER20's I probably wouldn't be able to hear anything now. I was very pleasantly suprised. Mind you, I'm not sure wether I'd be able to get away with wearing them in my other bands which are more dynamic and are heavy on the BVs. We'll see...
One on the drumer side might help
 4.
Thanks! Just did a little search about him. Apparently he was Carole King's husband at the time. Bass player married to very cool singer-songwriter - makes me think of Larry Klein-Joni Mitchell.
"So far away" oooooooooohhh lush.
 5. We had a go at this topic in July .. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?s=&sho...st&p=543777 Some good stuff there.

Looking to sell ideally but not against trade ideas if you have anything interesting. I know OG was looking for one of these so he can have first dibs being just up the road from me in Cardiff etc... Looking to get back what it cost me to buy (55 squid, or 60 posted to UK) cheers all Tim
PM'd

"Shine stage lights directly into Mr Pop's eyes and he will find the lighting director after the show and eat his entire family"
 9.
That is sweet. Si apparently the globe has lost it's music license
Sorry thread derail coming up... Ok Don't panic ... It's had a cease and desist due to noise complaints BUT they are appealing and whilst that goes on so do the gigs, or so the local rag says. the appeal is for more time to sort the extra sound proofing out. This was planned but needs a bit more funding. Read all about the retired vicar planning to spoil 30,000 people's fun Ok, thread back on track again
 10. Well they arrived, ent back to getthe strings I'd asked fro fitted and got stuck in the postal strike ....... Eventually showed up at the factory and were back inside 3 days. Not bad service but not quite as good as fitting the cords in the frirst place. Two gigs in and things are working out. I still have to sound check and set levels without the plugs in but once we get going I stick them in. They are brilliant when playing. I can hear what I'm playing much more clearly and the rest of the band Ok. The only down side is that when singing I can hear nothing but my internal fold back so a bit of adjustment has been needed so I make sure I play the right notes when singing cos if I don't I can't hear the error. In between numbers (which can be quite a long time for us whilst we set up the dances) I take them out to make the talking and hearing bit easier. I have to hear the heckles They were an absolute God send at the first gig I used them. The DJ was hitting 120 Db in a small (empty) room whilst we were packing up. We measured him. The band managed just 105 Db when playing .. drums, cymbals and all ...... Well worth the dosh IMHO
 11.
Ha ha nah, don't be daft. Mind you we are not famous like you .. Bob Harris name checks eh? Wow! Can I get your autograph when you play The Globe? We ask them to tell us if there is or isn't food for us so we can get a sandwich beforehand if needed and we suggest that buying the band a drink is good practice but they don't always have the capacity to worry about us as they are generally very busy with their wedding or fundraising stuff ...
Having said that last week we played a wedding where they had a cheesecake... Their wedding cake was a huge stilton topped by a huge french soft cheese wheel and a heart of cheese.... We all went home with wedges of fabbo cheese, Grommet
