1. Hi xgsjx. Nice to hear from another Perth bassist. I'm a Hillyland boy myself. I spoke to Pete Caban in Bandwagon a wee while back when I heard his band were looking for a bass player. I think the spot had already been filled though. I had heard there was a shortage of bass players in Dundee as well. Pretty sure I'll get something soon. Cheers.
2. Hi there. I’ve been visiting here for a while without actually contributing anything. I thought it would be good manners to introduce myself. I’m what you might describe as a “return-ee” to bass playing. I started playing bass in the 70’s. It was an “in-at-the-deep-end” experience. I was playing guitar at the time when, three days before a gig, the bass player left the band. The rest, as they say… I’m now in my fifties and for the last twenty years or so, apart from some depping work and a bit of recording for my own solo projects, I’ve hardly done any bass playing at all. Now I have the opportunity to get back playing bass in a band again. I had been thinking about it for a while but due to work commitments could never quite make it happen. Redundancy sorted that out. (It’s never all bad) I play a Rickenbacker 4001 which I’ve had from new. (I almost sold it at one point because I hardly ever used it but my friend threatened me with actual bodily harm if I was stupid enough get rid of it. A true friend indeed.) Turns out it was made in February 1978, the same month and year I got married. Both relationships survive and prosper. I bought an Ampeg SVT4 Pro and, thanks to the good influence of BC’ers, I’ve recently taken delivery of a Barefaced Bass Super 12. This combination of amp and cab have shown up a few weaknesses in my guitar’s set-up that I had never really noticed before. It’s also shown up more than a few weaknesses in my playing technique. I’m working on them both. I’ll post a pic in the gear porn thread at some point. Anyway, I think that’s wordy enough for a first post. Now, all I need is a band…
