  1. you see the thing that is good about the phil jones bass pre is that it has an onboard compressor, i know it doesnt allow for all the tecnicallities of ratio etc. but surely something is better than nothing and i don't feel like paying for a proper compressor. I've heard good things about the aguilar pre's but also expensive?

  2. What are your opinions? I'm currently using a 120W laney amp and it isn't very good it has a slight hum off it a louder volumes and I want to get something that'll help get rid of that and give a better tone. would a preamp help? I have no idea I wouldn't even know how to wire it up, completely useless. I usually DI out to the pa and don't need anything big. or should i just invest in a good amp and cab?

    anyone had experiences with the PJB bass buddy?

    Philip

    Edited: I will also need something for the studio.

  3. Hello all,

    In the midst of basses that are being sold for thousands I have decided to offload a brilliant wee bass for a mere 90 pounds! That's right £90!

    Anyhow here's the stuff, it is the transparent red one and is in good shape. it has been giged but still well looked after. It would work well for a second bass or a good beginners!

    Sure, just let me know if there is any interest!

    Thanks
    Philip

  4. Hello, I'm pretty useless when it comes to music theory and I was wondering if anyone could help me out... How many scales are there on a bass guitar? is this a silly question? What do I need to do to improve my theory and be able to put that into practice?

  5. I just bought a second hand warwick thumb 94' (best looking one I've seen so far) and it is lovely. The case that is supplied with it is shocking it is just a rectangular box pretty much, in comparison with the music man case it is a shambles! Have I been supplied a dud or are they all like this? it says rockcase on it which to me makes me feel as if this case was meant for a rockbass? anyone know if there are any better out there?

    I have included a google picture of both of them, but this is a pretty accurate representation. I'm not sure if it is clear in the photo but the stingray sits snug to the sides whereas my thumb bounces alll over the show

  6. This is his blurb that he has put on gumtree;

    for sale is a Gallien Krueger 4x10" Bass Cabinet. I now use a smaller cabinet and have no need for this one. Please note this is just the cabinet, there is no amplifier head for sale.

    RRP of this cabinet is £450, but my asking price is £300. As with the guitar(see LE Stingray 2004 in basses), offers will be considered. If you would like to purchase with the bass guitar, I will offer the cabinet for better than half price - £200!

  7. Selling this for a friend as he told me to put it on here to see what the haps are. This is what he says;

    'Ernie Ball Musicman Stingray 4

    This is a mint condition Musicman Stingray 4 string bass. It was purchased in 2004 for £1750 in California. This is the special 2004 model, not many were made and it is in a beautiful and rare colour scheme.

    The bass plays brilliantly and has a wonderful tone that only a Musicman Stingray can produce - perfect for deep grooves or funk slap bass. There are 4 knobs which control volume and 3-band EQ. It is finished in Autumn Red (a very rare and desirable colour), with a rosewood neck.

    The guitar comes with the original hard shell case, plectrums, 1/4" instrument cable and polish cloth.

    I'm selling this guitar with great regret, as I have another 5 string stingray which I now use exclusively and have no need for this bass. I'm also a bit stuck for cash!

    Price of the guitar is £1200 but offers will be considered - don't be afraid to offer whatever you think is fair, everything will be given consideration. I need to get rid of this thing fast! I would also consider a trade for a Warwick streamer jazzman or something pretty special!'

    I'm pretty sure he will take reasonable offers! below are the pictures and if you want more pm me and i'll get on to him asap.

  8. Ermm I'm not sure if there will be much demand for this, but basically it is a custom built flight case for a fender jazz/percision or one size fit all. I have neither so I just use my warwick case as it is smaller and it has benn below my bed not getting any use. I would have no idea what this sort of thing would go for, it is in very good condition it is black carpeted with aluminium around the edges. so if you are interested let me know.

    possible ball park of £90 though if this is too expensive i can negotiate.

    Philip

  9. Me?.... Someone must have said it by now? Erm when I first started playing I was given a BB blaster thing, it in itself was useless but it had the 'magic ZAP!!!' button. I've recently hooked it up for the living room so I can be warm whilst practising.... the effect has little to no effect, rendering it useless.

  10. I'll be using it in a medium sized gig (3-400 if that is medium) It's pretty much rock and jazz I'll be playing. I love big slow grooves where the bass hits you! Has anyone had any experience with a fEarful cab? DO they sound good?

  11. Well if you want to spend a bit of money and if you were going to spend it on the gamma pads maybe you should look at 'china cones' I know relatively little about them other than they were advertised in sound on sound. They might improve the sound and may also add resale value if you were to ever sell your berg.

    Not sure if this helps
