1. I have the combo version of the Spyder head (550 Touring), excellent amp, not being a natural bass player I probably don't use the amp to its full potential. However, it produces the sound I like and has plenty of Oomph. I too changed the stock valves to JJ's due to one of the chinese valves going microphonic, Ashdown sent a new set of JJ's as the amp is still under warranty. If I had the spare cash I would certainly be interested in buying your head as I have another side project I looking at. Lee
2. Hi, Good luck with the sale of these but you may find that SAI PA speakers are not really as sought after as there guitar speaker cabs and valve heads, also, SAI wasn't a major player back in the day so their name isn't as well known in other parts of the UK and further afield. Lee

4. I used to have the same Ashdown combo and found it lacked a bit Oomph due to only running at 8-ohms, so I added the 1x15" deep cab. It gave me the full 300w at 4-ohms and plenty of bottom end, the only trouble I found was that there wasen't an awful lot of definition in the sound, especially when playing higher notes (frequencies). In theory I would have been better buying the Mag 210T combo and adding a 15" deep cab underneath as opposed to 2 15" speakers. I eventually sold the Mag300 and bought the newly released 550 Touring that came out in June of last year, awesome amp with bags of power, 550w at 4-ohms and 350w at 8-ohms, even though it is a 2x10 it still produes plenty of bottom end, as yet there isn't a 15" cab to go with it unless I used one of the standard Ashdown ABM or MAG ext cabs, but then it wouldn't look right. 5. Apparently it has only been in production for just over a month or so and is proving to be a very successful amplifier so far, if you like a nice punchy sound this is the amp. Has bass, Mid and treble shifts so you can alter different frequencies up the eq ladder, plus it has a handy mute switch. This model is different to most other Ashdowns where you set the input gain via the VU metre before setting your output volume, on this amp the VU metre only comes in to operation on the master gain, so you can turn your master gain down and your input gain up to overdrive the valves etc, or the other way round for a nice clean tone. 6. A couple of weeks or so ago I decided to sell on my Ashdown Mag 300 C115 cab and ext deep 1x15 speaker as I wanted a rig with a bit more Oomph and a tighter punchier sound as my 2x15's had plenty of low end wallop but not much definition. Not being a bass player by trade I made a school boy error and bought a slightly under powered 1x15 combo that would only give out 307w at 4 ohms, so it ment having to buy an ext cab, which I did but had to be another 1x15 as opposed to a 2x10 as the configurement was the wrong way round for a 2x10. I was looking on buying an Ashdown ABM 500 Evo 3 2x10 combo until I came across this bad boy on the Ashdown website. Instantly liked the look of it as it blended well with the other two lad's Vox AC30's, it turned out to be a hybrid consisting of the Small Block 427 dual valve pre amp and the ABM 500 power stage giving 550w at 4 ohm, as I run it only at 8 ohm it still churns out 350w which is more than my last rig could do. Considering it is a 2x10 configuration it has plenty of bottom end and some serious treble if that is what you want, for me I like a nice gutsy bottom end with a bit treble just to add definition, as I am still finding out about this amp I am sure there are way more sounds I can get out of it. It comes with a passive eq instead of the usual active one, so ajustments are not as great but not as clouded either, you need arms like Geoff Capes too as it is a heavy bastard. I can carry it on my own but don't relish the idea though. The RRP for this amp on the net is £789.00 which I couldn't really afford, so did a bit of searchin and came across an online retailer called "gear4music" based in York, they had the amp advertised for £665.99, I went to my local Ashdown retailer, Rimmers Music in Leyland to see if they could price match it, they did and had the amp delivered two days later, Result! So this bad boy should keep me going for many yrs to come or as long as I try to play bass................... Lee

Comes in nr mint condition, great tone, 40w of pure Class A valve action. 12. Hi Folks, I will be in the market in the next couple of weeks for buying another bass amp after selling my Mag C115 300 Evo II and Mag 115 Deep Cab. I have been looking on Ashdowns site and was looking at buying the ABM 2x10" (575w) combo as it has a bit more Oomph, especially when run at 4 ohm, anyway, whilst on there site I came across there Touring range. http://www.ashdownmusic.com/bass/detail.as...n=dt&ID=254 Basically using the ABM power stage with a Tubed pre-amp, the look of this amp is more in keeping with the band I run, we play 60's covers and both guitarists use Vox AC30's, one being an original 1964 copper top and the other being the new CC2x range. So this amp wouldn't look to much out of place at the side of the Vox's, I was thinking of trying to pick up an Vox bass amp of that period but to be honest, Vox never really made a decent bass amp. So does anybody have any info on this Ashdown rig, maybe you have one or have used one? They seem to be a specialist order item at most stockists due to the nature of the amp. I shall wait in anticipation, Lee

14. Ashdown MAG 115 Deep Cabinet This is my Ashdown Mag 115 ext cabinet that I used with my Mag 300 Evo II combo. Comes in good condition, fitted a new grille that I bought direct from Ashdown last year at the cost of £25.00 due to the original one having a couple of dents in it. I like my equipment to look as good as new if possible, always well looked after. 15. Ashdown MAG C115-300 EVO II Combo Comes in excellent condition throughout, the only reason I have decided to sell it is due to wanting the 2x10 version which I can match up to my 1x15" Ashdown deep Ext cabinet. This amp is PAT tested until Sept 2011. The only fault is the bulb has gone on the VU metre, only went last week so not really been that bothered to replace it, I have the amps input volume set the same so no need to be looking at the VU metre. 16. Time to sell................. This is Ashdowns own dedicated wireless unit for the Bass guitar. This unit comes in excellent condition throughout, all my gear is looked after and doesn't get thrown about. What's included: Comes with original box & packaging Freebass unit Freebass belt pack Ashdowns own belt pack to guitar jack to XLR 4 pin lead PSU Instruction Manual For the full spec on the Freebass unit please follow this link - http://www.ashdownmusic.com/tech/manuals/F...SS%20Manual.pdf When I bought this unit I soon found out that the lead that Ashdown throw in with it is infact very poor indeed, so I bought a custom made "Silent Jack to 4 Pin XLR" cable made from hi -spec German made Sommer Tricone MkII instrument cable, double shielded. This cable alone cost me £23.95 and comes with a 12 month no quibble warranty. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Ashdown-FreeBass-Wir...=item45f9002650 As you can see from the pictures I carried the freebass around in a heavy duty plastic tool box which is lined with anti slip foam, this is far superior to the card board box it came it, so the potential buyer has two options, you can either have the original packaging or I will send it in it's dedicated heavy duty tool box which is made for the job of gigging? I will not send both. I want £100.00 for the lot.

Ashdown Freebass

Hi Folks, Can anyone shed any light on Ashdowns dedicated bass wireless system, Freebass? Seen one handy money second hand, but, before I dive in with both feet I thought I'd get some honest reviews on the said item if anyone ahs used or still uses one in their set up. I do prefer a good quality lead but as we have changed guitarists in the band I have reverted back to sound man, but my lead isn't 20ft + so I aint much use at the moment. Not found many reviews online, is this a good or bad thing? Lee
18.
Just found this.... http://www.undergroundsai.co.uk/About_Us.html
Underground SAI is owned and run by a friend of mine called, Frank Patterson. Frank deals in allsorts of PA equipment, new & used big and small, nice guy to deal with. He did have an old SAI stalwart working longside him for a while, Mick Atherton, some might know Mick from when he had his business in Standish, MA Amps................Was their for many years. Lee
19. After responding to a post on NWB's website last night regarding an SAI cab, I decided to try and find photo's of the old SAI bass cab & head I owned. Only coming across the one photo for now. This was made by SAI (Sound Advice Installations) who were based in Standish/Coppull and Preston back in the late 60's and 70's producing cabs & amps that were based mainly on Vox & Marshall of that period. I think they were all class A valve amplification, of a very high standard and a make of amp you see very little of these days. This one was made around 1970/75 and consisted of 4x12" Celestion G12's and a 50w Class A valve head. At the time of owning this I didn't play bass guitar, only 6 string, plus I own an old AC30 so other amps don't come close to that in my opinion, so it was sat in the garage for a few yrs. In a moment of madness I decided to sell the rig and placed it on eBay, this is about 5yrs ago at least, I sold it to gentleman who was based in LA (USA) who collected old british amps and then hired them out to local recording studios for bands that wanted that british sound. I think at the time I got about £600.00 for it, definitely a bad move on my part selling it as it would have only increased in value, especially as it was mint, looked like it had never come out of the showroom..........If & when I come across pictures of the internals I will post them up. Lee
20. If you went for the Ashdown 2x10" combo, you would be best to buy a 15" ext cab, you can pick them up second hand on ebay for less than £100, I got my cab for £80. If you decide to go for the Ashdown Mag C115 -300 Evo II you would be best to buy the 15" ext cab, don't make the mistake of buying the 2x10" ext cab as this configuration wouldn't sound right. It is always best to have the a 15" cab on the floor with 2x10's above it, not the other way round. Regards, Lee Ps, try thomann for the Ashdown range of products - http://www.thomann.de/gb/ashdown.html?sid=...6e24864cedff826
21. Hi David, The Ashdown does indeed have an Octave generator as well as Compressor and DI so you can go direct to the PA system if you so wish. Very compact and easy enough to transport from gig to gig. Lee
22. Hi David, I own an Ashdown C115 Evo II combo, I bought it brandnew about 15months ago and had no trouble with it what so ever. I bought it from Thommann in Germany for £310.00, the local music sshop to me wanted over £360.00. I find the amp very good, plenty of tones to play with considering it's a 15" speaker, I prefer the 15 as I like to feel the bottom end, but the amp really comes to life whe you add Ashdown's ext cab to it, I bought a 15" deep ext cab because I found the combo on it's own just lacked a bit of wallop when playing a big room, so by adding the extra cab you're making the amp run at optimum level, e.g it now runs at 8-ohms giving you the full 307 watts asopposed to probably only half that when run without the ext cab. In hindsight, if I ever was to change my cab, I would probably get Ashdowns 2x10" version of mine and link that with my 15" ext cab giving me a more complete sound, all part of the learning experience for me. Hope you get what you want, Lee
23. Hi, I have the same amp that I use with my band, great piece of kit. I have been looking for another one of these as a spare, would you take £150.00? I only ask because that is what I paid for mine 2 yrs ago, that was also second hand. I am down in Cirencester tomorrow evening with my fathers band doing FOH sound so could organise payment & collection? Regards, Lee
