1.
Interesting thread, but can I just say that I've never heard of Victor Wooten, Marcus Miller or Rodney "Skeet" Curtis!

Seriously.... I haven't.
There's no shame (or pride..!) in that, sir; there's thousand's more that I haven't heard of either. You could do worse than look 'em up on 'Youtube', perhaps (but it's optional...).

There are better places for storing 'sh*t' than shelves (personally I've given up collecting the stuff; smells bad after a while...).

3.
Can I just ask if your son wanted it signed?
Good evening, Wayne...
No, at the time, my son Tom didn't know who the guy was (and didn't care much, either, that's youth for you...). Once he saw how the guy played, however, his ears pricked up somewhat. I asked if he would dedicate it, after the show, as a kind of souvenir. As I said, it's rubbed off since, so it matters little now..! At least Tom now knows for certain that if there's a problem playing something, it ain't the bass, it's him. He's moved on since and taken over my 6-string fretless, so the Cort is played less now. Happy days, however...

4. Good evening, all...

Just for the anecdote...
Back in 2006, Macao Parker was billed at our festival in France (3 elephants...); in the afternoon came a message that a 5-string active bass was looked for. The bassist (Rodney "Skeet" Curtis...) had a problem with the electronics of his Lakland, could we find an equivalent..?
No, we don't have top-level instruments spare in this corner of France; my son had recently got a bottom-line, run of the mill Cort active fiver, by coincidence with the same pup configuation (although Cort quality, not Lakland...). We offered it for inspection, he changed the strings and action and did a fine set, solos included, with the Cort, which cost just over 200€ new. No-one in the public was disappointed.
He signed the back of the bass before leaving (it's worn off since...). Charming bloke, red-hot player. I can confirm that a good bassist can get hot funk from an entry-level instrument (the Ampeg stack helped somewhat...).
Just saying...

5.
...and who would have thought that the drum equivalent of BassChat would be DrumChat?!?!
You're welcome, Richard. Those that play bass and drums (no, not at the same time, you fool..!) are 'plugged in' to several forums (or is that 'fora'..?), and more yet (jazz guitar, valve amps etc...). I practice all, which makes me expert in none..! :)
Good luck with your sessions; you may like to let us know how things pan out..?

6.
...I know there are a few drummers on here - what would you like to be presented with on a session? And/or, is there a drummer's equivalent of BC where I can ask this question?...
Good evening, Richard...

7.
...Autumn Leaves is usually [Fake Book - and possibly written key].....E minor [G major/ 1#]...
Good afternoon, all...
I would concur with Garry here; E minor. The last chord is more usually the best indication of the key (resolution..?); although there are, of course, exceptions, they tend to be rare (at least in 'standard' music, death metal may be different, I wouldn't know...). 'Girl from Ipanema', for instance, ends on a Gb7, preceded by an FMaj7. The key is F (1b...), the Gb7 is a sort of musical 'suspension' for effect.
The general 'rule of thumb' for me would be the last chord...
Hope this helps...

I rather think that this could help you (free download...)...
Jazz Guitar Chords Ebook...
...it's aimed at jazz guitar, but the basic info. on chord formation etc. applies equally to bass. Personally I found it invaluable, and very clear in its explanations. It costs nothing, and could open a lot of doors for you, imho.
Hope this helps...

11.
...So, do I need a new amp ?...
Good afternoon, Richard...
I don't see much of a problem here. You don't need to play at full volume anywhere; the idea is to play at the level that gives you the sound you want. If you turn up more, the amp will 'clip' eventually, not normaly nice sounding.
The Firebass puts out 700w? That seems to fit with your cabs (2 x 4 ohms, the cabs will absorb 350w each...), so you could plug both cabs into the amp with no load problems. Depending on stage size, you may want to place the cabs apart, so as to spread the sound (one near the drummer, one near you..?). If projection over a large 'festival' area is required, the PA system is there for that. You have to cover the stage and the area immediately in front. You won't fill a Glastonbury-sized event with a Firebass alone...
I'd say that you only need to set up as normal, with 2 cabs, and leave the rest to the sound engi...
Just my tuppence worth, hope this helps...

13. Too simplistic, you're choosing to ignore the Vistalites, or even stainless steel...
...and what about electronics? Is emulation or synthesis defendable? Personally I'm for maple, but birch has a following too...
(Oops! I've crossed through a site warp and mis-understood the post! Sorry... scuttles back into the undergrowth, cursing softly...)

14.
...each side of my amp runs @ 375 4 OHMs or 250W @ 8 OHMs so I was wondering whether to run one on each side or both on one side...
Good evening, waynepunkdude...
If I'm reading this correctly, you'll get 1 x 375 if you connect both cabs to one side only (4 ohm together...), but 2 x 250 if you connect one cab to each side (8 ohm each...). So, 375w or 500w, your call. The amp would perhaps be happier working balanced into 2 x 8 ohm, imho...
Of course, you could always add two more cabs, and get 2 x 375 (750w...)
Hope this helps.

15.
...it's become a "feature" of Les Pauls rather than a bug.
Good evening, mart...
Yes, I confirm that this is indeed a 'feature' of Gibbo's (that's how I learned..!).
Glad to have helped; sorry for the big words.

16.
...Can someone explain, in words of at most one syllable, why the jazz volume controls are wired this way round?
Good afternoon, mart...
With your first wiring method, if one pot is turned down, then the other pot is also shorted to ground, so no output from either pu. With the method in the diagram (not just for 'Jazz' basses, but almost all 2-pu basses or guitars...), the wiper of the pot feeds progressively more and more to the output as you turn up, but the o/p is never shorted to ground by either.
There is no difference electrically whilst both pots are at max or min, but this minimises interaction between the volumes of the 2 pus in between.
Is this concise enough..?
Hope this helps...

...I have a 6-string fretless from them, and it's great vfm, imho. Certainly doesn't feel 'cheap', and plays fine (active electronics didn't spoil the deal, either..!). You may even like their 'violin' bass (personally I use Hofner, which is very light, being hollow...).
Shipping to France was no problem.
Just my tuppence worth, hope this helps.

18.
I have a Hartke 3500...break it and sell individual bits...
Good evening, Quoth'd...
Just a shot in the dark... I have a 3500, and need to replace the mains transformer (original shorted out...). Did you get yours fixed (if so, forget this, and well done..!); if not, would you be willing to sell me the transfo (assuming it to be toroidal...), please?
Give me an idea of price, and postage (to France, postcode 53110...) if you can help me out. I only need the transfo (my amp blew just a few weeks out of guarantee, so is otherwise in good shape. Ain't that always the way..?)
Thanks in advance for any help you can give, and...
Have a nice day :)

19. Good evening, Heathy...
Human psychology is not my speciality, but, for what it's worth...
You might try creating an occasion, out of your regular music scene, to have an 'event' (an evening go-karting, ten-pin bowling, afternoon fishing, whatever you fancy...). and have a 'round-table' discussion with all members on the future and direction of the band. The essential stuff is to be on 'neutral' territory, not your home or the others, and not to specifically bring up your frustrations; just let (or guide...) the conversation to let all members bring up all their positive and negative feelings. Keeping things lightweight, no toes should be stepped on, and, who knows, something better mutual understanding could result.
I've personally assisted at this kind of 'chill-out', and kept an excellent drummer on board who was on his way out of the group.
Hope this helps, and good luck. Stay cool...

20.
Hy there.. sorry but "bump" ..it means that you have already sold the bass? or you change your idea.. well it means that the bass is no longer available?
(sorry, but I'm italian so I can't really understand all yours slang :) )

Thanks a lot!

Good afternoon, Manuel...
No apologies needed; no-one is expected to know all this forum stuff...

'Bump' is a term used when the Original Poster (OP...) wants the subject to be brought to the attention of those following 'New Posts'. It's just a way of bringing it forward, instead of being 'buried' in the 100's (or 1000's...) of previous posts.
Here's Wikipedia on the subject (useful for looking up things you are not sure of...)...

My name is Terry from a company called HelpfulMove in UK

Please I would like to know where to start learning how to play Guiter. My son is grace is about playing Guiter, but I don't know where he should start, I never play Guiter guiter before In my live.

I just need advice from any one.

Thanks
Good evening, Terry, and welcome to the forum...
You could do worse than try your local music store, they will have a few guitar teachers on hand. You shouldn't need to sign up for life, just get a chat with a couple (with Sonny, of course...), to see if they fit your bill. Depending on what style or whatever motivates him, a good teacher should be able to get him started.
Hope this helps...

Good evening, ViaceslavSvedov...
Excellent, congratulations. It looks as if you enjoyed playing that! Special mention for the recording quality (silence until the bass is turned up...). I guess (I may be wrong...) that the drummer is our old friend Roland? Whether live or machine, top notch.
Thank you for sharing; made my evening.
