1. When looking at the LMT bare in mind that the 800 is not just a more powerful version of the 500, they sound quite different. The 500 is with the LM II and III tone wise (warm, tubey) and the 800 is more like the SD800 (clinical and sparkly). When I recently tried out the rocker I thought it was ok but definately feel you'd get more pleasing results and versatility with a LM II/III or tube (500) with a decent overdrive/distortion pedal in front, probably cost less too.
2.
About the longest standing Ampeg endorser I can think of is Mr Billy Sheehan (he of the amazing chainsaw through mud tone)
After these many years Mr Sheehan has recently left Ampeg. He sold all his Ampeg on e-bay and will soon be announced as Hartkes latest artist. I'm new to this site and must say I'm a bit shocked with how militant some people are in their views of what equipment rules and what is rubbish. I love the Amp/cab I own but would happily own 100's of others. There is FAR too much awesome equipment out there to religiously stick to one brand or amp type but, thats just me and I'm one of those guys who will probably never stop searching for my next favourite tone.
3. My weapon of choice Fender 300PRO Barefaced vintage - unless one has been made in the last few weeks its the only one with a black steel grill. I like it! Brutal rig!!!!!!!! Also in the pic are - Markbass LMtube Sansamp BDDI Tech21 Red Ripper Yamaha John Myung 6 string the corner of my P Bass!
4. I use a LMtube (500w version) which I generally run flat with VLE and VPF off with a Sansamp BDDI in front for my tone shaping (great results!) but find the VPF useful for finding different sounds when mucking around playing solo stuff. Its good for getting a more 'modern metal' kind of tone out of the amp if thats your thing and also scooping the mids for slapping. In my experience the VPF yields different results for the active or passive instruments I use.
5. That youtube clip was all I'd heard when I bought the pedal. I must admit I was'nt too impressed with the sound in the clip but pulled the trigger and bought it cos it I'd read up on its capabilities, have much respect for Tech 21 and it looks cool! I've used a few distortion/fuzz pedals in the past - Big Muff, B:Assmaster, ODB-3, Tubescreamer and maybe one or two that I'm forgetting. What makes it unique is the R.I.P control - with it off you have yourself a fairly typical overdrive/distortion pedal (think driven tube amp style distortion) the R.I.P adds weird synth/fuzz to the tone the more its increased, with both drive and R.I.P maxed its in the same tone category as the Mylekko B:Assmaster. I've only had it two days so am still finding my way around it but its lots of fun! If I can get my recording equipment working I could maybe put some clips up?
6. I just got this pedal and its a strange beast! Extremely versatile and unlike any distortion/fuzz I've ever used. Anyone else playing one yet? I'd be interested to hear what people think so far. PS, this is my first post so, Hi!
