  1. I've got a passive German Corvette but to be fair it wasn't particularly well looked after by previous owners...needed a good looking at before it was playable...the p/ups are pretty weedy compared to my other gear and the range of tones is pretty limited. Nicely balanced though and the hardwear is pretty good. I like the body shape and don't find it particularly heavy. The passive models can be picked up for a couple of hundred quid which isn't bad compared to what else you get for this sort of money.

  2. IMO the early ones are better - pre 94 with the muted bridge and bird's eye Maple necks are the ones to go for. I've had 2, one with SD p/ups which I preferred over the standard pick ups - did everything that the standards did but had a broader range of tones. This one also had a satin finish on the neck rather than lacquer which my 2002 had - this really didn't compare to the 94 which I should never had sold.

  3. They played St Albans on the Friday - a friend of mine was in jail with Ali Cambell years ago and even though Ali has left UB40 and has gone "solo", because my mate knows the whole band we normally get in backstage on the guest list. However because there was an argument with the new Tour Manager none of us went.

Ali and Astro are playing Hatfield Park later this year so chances are we'll be getting backstage passes to that instead.

Didn't the woman who complained realise that the gig was going to be loud?? Must have been a while since she last went to a gig..

  4. I think we'll need to create a list of criteria we can test against - pretty sure most people will be able to differentiate between a pick and fingers though. Whether they can differentiate between each brand and model played with pick/fingers may be a different matter..

not hard to tell which is which by looking at which is being played, is it?
    [/quote]

Wouldn't be a "blind test" then would it??? We'd obviously have to have whoever's playing behind a screen....

EDIT: Sylvia beat me too it..

  6. What I'd like to do is list all the P Basses on a prepared sheet of paper, for them to be played (preferably all by the same person to take that out of the equation) and see how many people can actually "guess" correctly which is which.

Hopefully will fuel the debate whether it is actually worth spending mega bucks on gear or whether your less expensive models can do the same job at a reduced cost...

  7. I've posted something in the "Events" thread but recognise that I'll probably get a bigger audience here so...

As part of the Herts Bash 2 I'd like to put on a blind test for P basses, testing different brands in different price brackets to see how different they are and whether people can tell the difference.

If you're planning on coming to the Herts Bash and own a P Bass please bring it along. Might be helpful if I know in advance what you're bringing so we can prepare some paperwork for those who choose to get involved...

    Hopefully see you there..

  8. As part of this day I'd like to do a blind test of, say, Precision basses - everything from your £99 bass models to your hyper models and see if people really can tell the difference.

If you own a P bass, irrespective of the brand/cost please bring it along..
