1. Doesn't it depend on what and how you play? If all you're playing is root notes then maybe but ask somebody to imitate Jaco and they'll soon change their opinion on bass being easier to play.

A friend of mine has played guitar for years and still only knows about three chords - the major and minor power chords - he manages to blag it successfully. Another friend of mine was playing guitar in a band within 6 weeks after he learned the two Bar chords (E and A string). Lots of guitarists think they can play bass, and may even get away with it for a few minutes, but in reality they struggle with keeping good time and being solid.

Anyway most of them aren't cool enough to be bass players..

Much loved here for the fact that you get a really well built and balanced bass for not a lot of shekels. They were £600-800 back in the 80s, Wals and Overwaters were similar prices. I've owned all three, only the Bass Collection remains in my household.

This is a 5 string, fewer of these about AFAIK, in what looks like exceptional condition - you'll be hard pushed to find a better bass for £230, which is for many is about a months supply of fags. Given the choice between a great bass and a cough I know which way I'd spend my money.

There's been a purple/blue one on ebay on and off for quite a while http://www.ebay.co.u...=item2c822fdf70

Hi Midleofnowhere and welcome to BC.

Unfortunately you have come to the wrong place to find advice to help you narrow your choices down to one instrument, and I'm surprised no-one's yet offered you guidance to make the correct choice regarding your dilemma.

So let me be the first. Buy all three.

The simple fact is, if you're going to hang around here, that will happen anyway. And that will only be the beginning.

One is never enough, and for many of us, neither is ten. Or twenty. :D

He sounds like he's joking but this is probably what will happen if you hang around the "For sale " thread.

I played a MM Sub at the LBGS earlier this year - very impressed for a bass in this price bracket....You could do much worse...whatever you choose to go for, consider secondhand over new and let somebody else take the big hit in depreciation - this puts other gear in your price bracket.

  5. I've got Status Black Nylon tapewound on my Shuker - give a rich warm sound which i assume everybody is after. Very reasonably priced at £13.99 for a four string set - not sure how much a 5 string set is by you could check out the Status website for a quote. Rob and Dawn are really friendly and helpful too..

  6. I once bought an amp where the seller used MyHermes - they lied about trying to deliver it (we have a controlled access system where you need to be buzzed in) - claimed to have put a card through my door - I was in the whole day - no attempt made at all.

Fortunately they use a warehouse nearby and when I called to check a girl I knew answered the phone and arranged for me to pick the parcel up from their yard.

I won't use them or buy from anybody using them.
