1.
Am I right in thinking that the '760' in the Item No. is the scale length? If so, this works out at 30" whereas I think mine is 30.5". So might I need the 32" version (if there is one) ?
Getting 32" (medium scale) strings is even more of a pain that getting short scale ones. I have a 32" Aria, and the choice of strings really isn't great (especially if you don't want to use Rotos).
I did read somewhere that the 'non-silked' section of the string should not allowed to be wrapped around the tuning peg -is that right?
That's Right.

  2.
I've done a bit more searching and found that the La Bella Deep Talkin' Flatwounds for the beatle bass 760FHB2 (39/56/77/96) are the ones to have.
That's a fairly US-centric view, where they can't easily get the Rotos, or the Hofner, strings. LaBellas are hard to get over here, which why I use Roto 88s and GHS nylon flats. But Thomann carry them all (I think).

  3. As others have said, it depends on where I've been, and where I'm going. Having tried it, it seems I'd use one finger per note -- index, ring, pinky -- although I might barre it on a fretted bass, but I don't ever double-stop on fretless by barring (presumably cos I'd never do it on the double bass).

  4. I bought a Epi EB-3 from Delberthot.

He was helpful, communicative, and easy to deal with, even when I was dicking around trying to sell another bass to pay him!

And the bass was exactly as he said it was.

Good chap, all in all. :)

  5. Hadn't got round to an introduction post, then I realised that I could just edit my gizzagig post

    By day, I'm a mild-mannered middle-aged ex-computer scientist, now studying law.

By night, I follow the mighty path of the Low B string...

I've been playing bass on and off for nearly 30 years. In that time, I've played all sorts, from classical (I recently played second bass in the Cambridge Concert Orchestra (so, yes, I can read, a bit)), to post-punk in 80s Manchester, via pit bands, blues, jazz, folk-rock, and so on... (You'd think that after all that I'd be better!)

Anyway, at my age, I'm no longer looking to become rich, famous, or get the chix. Not that I ever did, really. I always just just wanted to play. Never knowingly said no to beer money, or an open bar, though. :)

This is the kind of junk I listen to:

And this is what I use to make the noise:

2005 Warwick Corvette Std Bubinga Fretless / GHS 3060 Black Nylon
    1998 Jackson Concert C5A 5 string / RotoSound TruBass 88
    2009 Epiphone EB-3 /
    1981 Aria Pro II CSB-380 /
1970s Shergold Marathon (in pieces, awaiting attention)

    Zoom B2 Multi Effects thingy
    ElectroHarmonix USA Small Stone

  6.
The Ibanez Gary Willis model is a great fretless, as is the Fender Jaco model.
I tried a Fender Jaco the same day I bought my Warwick, and I was distinctly unimpressed. It was nicely made, played well, and sounded pretty good, but just didn't feel right (in the way my Warwick does). That could just have been my playing style, of course. or because I don't much care for lined boards.

  7. Here we have a Zoom B2 multi-effects & amp/cab simulator & beat box & tuner pedal which I have had for a few of years now. I've not used it much, never really having had the time to come to grips with it, and it's never been gigged, so it's pretty much in perfect nick (if a little dusty).

I have both the original, extensive, manual and the wall-wart PSU (although it does also run on 4 AA batteries).

If you don't already know how versatile these little red marvels are, here's the skinny on it.

Just £45 (OBO) to your door (a fiver off if you pick it up from Linlithgow :) )

I also have three other pedals, up for trades:

ElectroHarmonix USA Small Stone

DOD FX42-B Bass Equaliser

DOD FX-82 Bass Compressor
These must all be about 20 years old (at least). But they're all in nice condition. All complete, and working; and, apart from a few light surface scratches here and there (and one broken, but still usable, slider on the eq), looking pretty good.
