1. I personally think this guy (Dirty Loop's Bassist) is incredible. The groove and techniques he uses in most of their songs is just insane. What is everyone else's opinion on this guy. Check this video, if you don't know who he is. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nls1HtXQe8E
 2. Ive Just sent you an email mate. I look forward to speaking about the position in more detail.

 4. Hi,I'm offering bass tuition near Birmingham/ West Midlands or Skype lessons to those who are located too far to drive. I’m a BA Hons Popular Music graduate who has been working as a recording musician/ session bassist and Roland demonstrator. I currently teach privately and gig regularly with function, tribute and original bands. I have toured nationally, headlining at the Cambridge Rock Festival and performing at Techfest amongst other venues. I have supported artists such as Alan Reed, Frost, Arena, Marillion, Fish, It bites, Monuments, Heart of a coward and more. Structured lessons with Rockschool, RGT and Trinity material/exams or individually catered lessons if you're looking to learn songs, techniques or just generally improve without grading. Based at a location suited to you (depending on distance) whether that's at home or at a local rehearsal room. Lessons will be £20 PER HOUR with additional travel fee if required. I can teach finger-style, plectrum, slap, tapping, fretless bass, acoustic bass, alternative tuning, chords, arpeggios, music styles, scales, music theory, sight reading, jazz theory and improvisation. Don't hesitate to drop me a private message if you wish to know more. Steven
 5. I did the same. Must be busy, I'm sure they'll get in touch soon with one of us at least.
 6. http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/red-hot-chili-peppers-flea-explains-his-miming-at-the-super-bowl-20140204 Flea posted this about the miming at the Super Bowl. Fair play to him.
 7. I stayed up to watch it and as soon as I saw Flea and his magical bass, I knew it would be a discussed topic on here. It really is a shame though.
 8.
I just checked, it does transpose, and the E on D2 is actually the same as the E0 on a guitar...
Thanks for clearing that up for us.
 9.
I though that Double Bass and Bass Guitars are a transposing instrument and were one octive lower than is written?
I seriously can't remember. lol All I can remember is where each note is on the stave in relation to where my fingers should be. I'll have to double check that. On the stave (without transposing octaves etc…), the 2nd fret on D string (bass) is the same as low E on guitar on the stave visually.
 10.
Wouldn't that top string be an octave up from the low string of a guitar? A guitar's low E is the same as the 2nd fret on a standard 4-strings D string...
Yes, you would be right. Nice spot.
 11.
I've not read anywhere else that the BTB's are weedy, I was seriously considering buying one, and spent ages looking at reviews on Talkbass.
It's more of a personal taste. They aren't the worst sounding basses by any means. I usually play a Sandberg bass featuring Delano pick-ups and comparing the two, the BTB would sound weedy and a little too thin, but its personal taste mate. They would definitely sound better if you kitted the bass out with different pick-ups
 12.
I don't know about adventurous I'd probably drop in some EMG's along the lines of Doods 7 string.
Nice choice. I've never really bothered with EMG pick-ups but after watching Victor Wooten and Evan Brewer do some demonstrations for EMG i'm slowly coming round.
 13.
I'd give it a go I love the upper registers on basses. The only thing is BTB's have always sounded a bit weedy to me so I'd want to change the pickups/electrics
Fair play mate, you are more adventurous than me. Must be my old ages, obviously. I agree, I used to a BTB 6 string and they just never sat right with me. I'd put Delano pick-ups in (if they designed a 7 string bass set).
 14.
Personally, I wouldn't have any use for an extra high string. Even the high C on my 6 isn't used all that much, but then I don't really do much tapping, chords or soloing. A few players have tuned 7 strings with a low F# instead though, so that might be worth considering. Bottom line though, is if you're interested, give it a bash!
Agreed. I'm not too interested in the instrument, I just thought it was a strange investment on behalf of Ibanez really. I could understand the 7 string with a low F# as I know modern metal bands use G and F# tunings for the low B. I think I might have to play it just to see how it feels and sounds. Sorry if it wasn't clear, I was mainly just commenting on how strange I think it is to have another high string.
 15. I've just found out that Ibanez have announced a 7 string bass tuned B, E, A, D, G, C, F in standard tuning. For those who don't understand that tuning - it means a 4 string with an extra low string (5 string), and two upper strings. I've owned an ibanez 6 string for a bit and they are great for practising upper range solos, scales and just general chord voicings, due to the wider (compound) interval distance. But seriously... Would anyone consider a 7 string bass, where the top string is theoretically the same as an electric guitars low E (just tuned to F for the consistent pattern found across bass strings). I'm sure we'll find some advanced slap/tap expert on youtube in the near future completely destroying the bass and writing some solo bass arrangement or piece. Is it really practical apart from the solo bass players, such as Franck Hermanny, Evan Brewer and those kind of guys.
 16. All good opinions and I agree if its valued work then I shouldn't downgrade. I haven't had many problems in the past, I was just thinking about the possibilities after my friend told me about his experience. I might just shave my hair off and get a tattoo on the back of my head (I'll look proper 'hard' then). I do have urges to buy a new bass anyway so I think i'll test a few models and products out. Cheers for all the posts and replies.
 17.
Surely this is what insurance is for? If you gig as much as you say, then I'd have a backup bass & amp at least kicking around anyway.
Yeah insurance isn't a problem (should of said that from the off really). I just want something as a back-up (or to use at more personal events) in case of the worst. Seems to be the best way to go. Now to browse the bass and amp/cab for sale threads.
 18.
My P Bass always goes back in the case during breaks.
I've started doing this now too. I normally use a Sandberg TM 5 string, so protection is a must.
 19.
I dont think you need to worry about amps and cabs but a cheaper bass for those sort of enviroments maybe a good idea. Over the years Ive had a few people try and grab my bass or go over and pick it up while we are having a break. Fortunately now my band only plays once a month we just pick and choose what gigs we want and would never play at a place where this could happen. My Vintage V4 is a cracking bass that only cost me £70 off ebay so would be a good cheap option to take
Cheers for the recommendation, I'll have a look. I was thinking about getting a 5 string modified squier Jazz bass (£310), as I just like the feel and size of a 5 more than a 4 string.
 20.
If you haven't actually had any real problems yet and only one guy being a pest out of all these gigs, don't think I would be too bothered. It would still be quite a large outlay, funding a reliable gig worthy set up. If you need to justify a GAS attack, then I concur and think it's a damned fine idea
Good point. I haven't really valued how much it would cost to get another set-up, so I think it must be a GAS attack (being christmas and all).
 21. I've been toying with this idea for a while now but it's only after hearing about an acquiantances gig experience that I've seriously thought about it. I perform in several function bands and dep for several more, because of this sometimes the gigs I play can be hotels, function events, christmas parties, birthday parties, general pub gigs or whatever an agent has booked us for. This leaves me playing to a wide range of clientele and sometimes gear can be touched, damaged or played by drunken audience members (who think it's fun to invade the stage and pretend to play/sing), so I'm thinking of buying a cheaper set-up and bass to avoid any serious damage to my expensive gear. Obviously kicking, screaming and punching through audience members would be the best option to stop them touching gear but this can't be done 24/7. Personally I haven't had many problems in this area yet but I did have one guy try and play my bass mid-song. So what's your opinion?
 22. Only just looked through this so i'm not sure if the conversation has moved on but i've had a similar situation with people borrowing my cabinet. Long story short - for all intent and purposes my cabinet effectively blew up. I managed to get the band to pay for repairs though.
 23. Anaconda basses - is a new bass company that has just launched. They are based in London and after going to the launch party they really are amazing. They look great and sound even better. It only takes 6 weeks for a custom build as well. Check out the website and see for yourself - http://www.anacondabasses.co.uk
