1. For a guitarist for home recording I'd eve suggest an Affinity Precision. I borrowed one from my guitarist a couple of years ago and once I'd overcome my own snobbery it became my main gigging bass for a while, until he wanted it back.

Cheap, but good and can be improved with a new pickup.

Hello Clauster, I was going to ask if you are happy with the results, but since you've done three....it'd have to be "yes"

The kits really improve everything about the pedal - noise, action, tone. Having done (and sold) three I eventually realised that the CS3 wasn't the comp for me.

I'm interested to see what you think of the mods for the ODB3 when done. I had been considering getting a used one myself and doing the kit, until I realised the Rat is the distortion for me.

3. The Forum, Tunbridge Wells, 250 Capacity.
POA for hire.
Ticket share once costs are covered.
Officially - no backline provided, but something can usually be rustled up with notice.
PA - I should know the exact specs as I have engineered there a couple of times. FOH is capable of sounding great, monitoring could be better. House engineers (Andy and Tris) are both great.
Tickets £5 upwards depending on who is playing.

Sorry, I should have qualified that by saying 'compared to what I could get a used LB rig for at the time'. Would love a drophead 30 for the house! Any plans for a drophead 15 with 12" speaker? That'd be AWESOME! Agreed the Ampeg B-15 price is certainly nutts, especially considering you're not even getting the original circuit design...

I believe the 15 is the speaker size not the amps wattage. So one with a 12" would be a Drophead 12. And a Drophead 30 would be H-U-G-E.

5. I had one on long term loan from one of our old guitarists. I used it for everything for a year, I just popped a used SD 1/4 pounder in there and it was fine.

£60 for the bass, a few quid on a scratch plate and a better pickup (if you feel it needs it) and you should have a useable bass for less than £100. Can't really go wrong.

Well I've currently got a markbass CMD102P 2X10" combo with a Traveler 151P extension cab. This gives me a really full range sound, with plenty of bottom end, but loud of clarity, punch and definition too. I don't like using the combo on its own usually, because its just lacking the balls that I'm used to from running the 15" too. I love my sound, and I really can't fault the mark bass stuff at all, but it would be useful to have a slightly more compact rig (not that it's massive anyway!).

It sounds like a BB2 would be the better choice for me.

If you're used to using tweeters the BB2 would better choice for you.

I paid my £100 May 29 and have paid in full since. No cab yet. To be fair I have altered my order a couple of times - original order was gen 2 Midget, which got changed to Super Midget because of gen 3 soon to be released. This I later changed to Super Compact and then BB2 as I became aware of the specs of the rest of the updated range. But I fear I've been bumped to the back of the queue each time :-(
However, I did state from the outset that I was in no particular hurry. A mistake perhaps?

I'd say an alteration would be wanting to change from metal grille to silver cloth, or adding a tweeter to a Midget. Changing to a whole different model would be more like cancelling and re-ordering. So you'll probably get yours 2-4 months after you settled on the BB2, maybe a bit longer as there seems to be a lot of demand for these G3 BF cabs.

8. Been considering making the same move myself recently......

Why? Our new guitarist (who is our old drummer) would feel more comfortable with a second guitarist. Experience tells me that when you put two guitars in the same band music can rapidly devolve from an art form to a competitive sport. I know if I do it that won't happen.

What will happen is I'll look at the guy playing bass and think "Why is he doing my bit?"

So I'm staying where I am and our guitarist can man up.

9. I'm a flat dweller myself. I use a headphone amp at home.

There is most likely a clause in your tenancy about "quiet enjoyment". If so you are in the wrong. Even if not, you are being inconsiderate and if your neighbours are complaining to your letting agent there's nothing to stop them serving a section 20 notice to get you out at the end of your assured period.
