Done plenty of those - Used to have a semi regular gig at a bar in Manchester where I had to move out of the way to let people leave.

I suppose I got goosed a couple of times and at least one was a young lady(?) ... well they're all young to me nowadays 🤣

  2. Another fun night, though very tight on space so I used the my old beaten up FPPR Status as we had people wandering through us to the loos all night

Good crowd singing along all night and a happy landlord, but unbelievably as the last time we played there, he leaves next week 🤦‍♂️

Had a guy come up to us afterwards and say “I came in and saw you setting up and thought oh **** this’ll be cr@p, but then you started and it was awesome 🤩 “ … which was nice 😁

It might be worth talking to Roqsolid. Based in Yorkshire, they make excellent amplifier and cabinet covers and I’ve got several. From my experience with them, If they don’t want to take on your requirements they’ll have someone else they can recommend.

+1 When I was looking for a case for my Roland PK5 bass pedals they made a custom bag for me that came out really well

  4. Apparently our drummer was talking to workmates about being in a a band and they were taking the mick saying “I bet you’re the old man in the band”. His answer “I’m actually 20 years younger than the next oldest” 🤣

I regularly see videos on social media and hear of people with degenerative issues (Alzheimer’s and the like) that show the sufferer coming out of their shell with music.

For me as an acknowledged music whooer I just love learning and playing different stuff for gigs and deps.

  5. Great night at a gig that has recently been saved from its boarded up state and threat of conversion to flats, and used to be a regular gig for us in various guises 30-40 years ago.

Set up as the rugby finished and the football team looked like a potential but they were great and a slightly older music audience arrived before we started.

Crowd up for it and singing along from the start.

A guitarist down for a while as he’s on holiday(s) for a few weeks but Max and I have played together as a guitar/bass/drums combo often enough for it not to be an issue.

Thought we might have volume issues but the landlord was asking our soundguy to turn it up so 🤷🏼‍♂️

Rig sounded huge tonight. Clear, solid, nice low end and just a soupçon of gnarl 😁🥰

More dates to come from a cracking night so all’s good 😊

What a great setup, easy to transport and I imagine it sounds immense, wouldn’t mind trying something like this with my big baby

I’ll probably give it a blast at the prog rehearsal tomorrow night but it sounded great on a little fire up today.

Revolt Bass pedal in its box fits in a pocket of one of my Studiospares leads cases and the amp has its own case, but would also fit in the leads bag with a little re jigging of the pockets.

I did discuss with Alex the point of the power amp over running the Revolt into the FX return and he didn’t think there’d be much gained going this route, but I had a sodit moment and got the amp from @BassBros (to whom kudos, I ordered one evening and it was delivered within 36 hours!)

It is a really compact rig, I really like the Revolt Bass and this does look to be a good match - that said the SkarBass into Darkglass Microtubes and on to the BB2 at yesterday’s gig sounded awesome as well 😁

  7. Now my January nightmare is over I fired up my new alternative baby rig (might use it tonight or probably safer leave to tomorrow or Monday’s rehearsals.

It sounds rather nice 😁 that said it was a small room and would possibly need the second BigBaby to get the full 600w and survive on its own in a big room without PA support, but generally very nice 👌

Three channel emulations - Green/left = Ampeg, Yellow/middle = Marshall Superbass and Blue/right = Modern/filth. I tend towards the first two, but messing around today was getting sounds I liked from the filthy channel as well.

Nice solid sound that’ll fit everything I do gig/dep wise from classic rock to disco and indie

  8. Night two depping went well. One of wifey’s mates decided she’d like to go to the gig so wifey came out of recluse mode and I played taxi driver, so there were two dancers all night but the crowd were good.

Got chatting to another bass player in the break and compliments on the bass sound which was nice 🙂

Managed to get the IEM’s working tonight and ran one in and one there or thereabouts which helped as space was tight so I was right on top of the amp but had one plug giving me a good solid bass feed plus some keys and vocals.

Good fun night playing different stuff to usual

  9. First of two nights depping with a band I did a holiday camp dep for last summer. Couldn’t seem to connect to their XAir so didn’t use my IEM’s and went commando for the first time in a while.

Everything from Beyoncé through Kool and the Gang to the Pretenders, Bon Jovi and Van Halen (Jump). One run through on Wednesday, a couple of run through to a Spotify and set up the sets as a playlist in iReal but didn’t really need it.

Couple of flubs but of course the punters weren’t aware of my ‘jazz’ moments and were dancing all night so all good, and onwards to tomorrow night (well tonight now).

  10. A loooooong time ago when we had a song that lasted less than a minute called 'Thunderbirds Are Go' we walked on to The Joe 90 theme (NO OF COURSE NOT!!) The Thunderbirds theme. IIRC the walk-on music lasted longer than the song that followed it :D

In a later incarnation of the band we had a walk-on to a mix of Ennio Morricone themes.

I suspect there were others that my addled brain has forgotten!

I'm going to get an XR18 mixer for our monitoring purposes.

I have a question with regards to what tabled to use for this.

I have no clue what specs I would need. I gather that to run the app controlling the XR18 we don't need much, but I don't know what is enough.

This would be purely to be used with the XR18, nothing else.

I'd prefer Android, but not set in stone.

I guess at the very least I need it to be dual band wifi... and I would like to be able to connect the tablet to the XR18 with a cable (using a USB-ethernet adapter) as a 'just in case' option, so it has to be able to do that.

    Any hints/recommendations?

I run either XAirMonitor Mix or MixingStation on either my iPad or iPhone. Either is fine for setting tweaking the monitor levels as the Aux page is essentially a slider / channel.

I use XAirMonitorMix app with the XR16 for my main band which works well and is quick and easy to select my Aux feed.

I also have Mixing Station that I use for a band I sometimes dep for that use a Soundcraft Ui. That also works just fine and is free as the basic app but you then have to pay for selected mixers that you use. IIRC it's around a fiver for each so doesn't break the bank

Really surprised by even an offer on this beauty, may have to consider letting something else go from the herd next weekend 😎

Watching as I need to see how much I have left at the end of the month (presuming all my clients pay up on time!). Been looking for a Jazz but mainly for the neck profile against a Precision so if as seems likely this were the case then …

I wouldn't over think this. The way they were recorded was quite different. The headphone amp comes in to play for the second version, which meant i couldn't use the same levels (and couldn’t be bothered getting too anal about it). Let your ears be the judge.

I can dropbox them if you really want them though.

I must admit i only get the stereo Aux because i brought the XR18 lol. Now that im using the actual Aux outs and not the monitor out, i could share my stereo mix with one other, but im keeping quiet about that for now.

I just wondered whether I could see anything on AB. Doesn’t really matter 🙂

I was looking at XR18 as I think the sound guy may still have the remote mixers that link on CATT5

Thanks for doing that - I will get my headphones out and give them a proper comparison at some point. I'm on a phone at the moment, so I don't think it would be a fair indication as a phone gives you no bass response anyway! On phone listen, they sound quite close.

Sounds good over the speakers in my studio. There's a couple of pops on the left hand copy on the second bit but otherwise my deaf ears can't hear much difference Can't work out how to download the audio to compare with ADPTR MetricAB :( .

I would need to find  way to get stereo out of the XR16 which might only be possible on the headphone our=t without taking two of the Aux lines (making me unpopular :D )

On a different tack I noticed the Behringer UL1000G2 whilst browsing and wondered whether that was worth a look?

  15. I got an Xvive unit to try with the moulded plugs that I got from Mercury (as I'd used them before for protectors & they're near the office to be able to call in) but actually most places we gig there's not a lot of space to run around so I normally just hardwire from Aux to a Behringer P2.

Because the kit is not fully mic'd I got a cheapish boundary mic from Studiospares to place behind the kit for a bit of ambience & general kit and that seems to work well, and better (probably also safer/cheaper) than having my Zoom H6 to do the same job.

I am really pleased with how it is going so far. I don't dig in too hard on the bass now because I can hear myself better, and don't over strain on BV's for the same reason so get to the end of an evening easier & pitching better.

Downsides for me are trusting bandmates and sound guy to get / allow a  decent bass level in FOH as the guitarists are often after me keeping onstage levels down - fine so long as FOH is adjusted accordingly because I can hear my bass fine in the IEM's but which I sometimes wonder about re FOH. It sometimes feels like my amp is barely ticking over. Also after the last gig I need to double check that the the feeds to my aux are pre-fade - I have a sneaking suspicion some or all may not be after my head was nearly taken off by one of the loops running off the the Alesis Multipad that I had said might need pushing in FOH as I had adjusted level down on one sample and realised I had possibly overcompensated at the previous gig & forgotten to reset before the last gig.

  16. Not a bad one for the final before one guitarist and vocalist jet off to sunnier climes. New bar opening down the road and a big puller just out of town so I held out little hope for the usual noisy night for our venue, but it was reasonably busy and they were up for it…so go in glass half empty and be pleased by half full worked.

A couple of us suffering from the start of this *****y cold doing the rounds but didn’t affect us too much. The odd fluff, but “no one died” and I doubt the crowd noticed.

next up for me a couple of deps at the end of January and rehearsal/get together to make some noise pre-Christmas for my first band from 45 years ago (unless any more deps come in the meantime)
