4. Hi Guys. I've just got the above bass and want to upgrade the bridge to a Fender 5 String Himass bridge..........Anyone know which one fits the MIM model? The "Wide String Spacing" bridge or the "Narrow String Spacing" bridge? My bass wasn't set up properly when i received it and the string spacing's are off slightly so I'm not sure which one to order. Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks In Advance guys.
5. Well done Cap...enjoy every minute as i'm sure you will mate....plus you never know what else could come of this..who knows whats round the corner hey?.........good luck mate.
6. John Taylor (who is well under-rated)...Bernard Edwards...Jaco...Mark King.....Macca.....are the main one's. Just as an aside....John Taylor and Bernard Edwards became very good friends, such good friends in fact that Bernard gave John his famous (Natural) Stingray, which John plays in Duran Duran's video for the single "Serious".
7. RIP Paul Gray............Cant honestly say i know much about him.....have heard the band here and there, never really taken much notice but they are obviously talented, just not my cup of tea.....yesterday- i watched a clip of him on youtube jamming with some drummer, he seemed VERY competent at his style, and was really having fun by the smiles he was making.....seemed like a very nice guy......such a terrible pity. RIP Paul.
8. i have tried both methods and dont see what difference it makes......................anyway- i just ordered "The Funk Brothers" dvd....so looking forward to that.
9. Thanks Pete......been listening to their stuff on youtube today....takes me back a lil bit......lol. He's a brilliant bass player, some fab grooves on Shalamar's stuff.
10. Anyone know who he was?.....great player whoever he is.
11. PMSL........Mark's still "The Daddy" though.
12. Money making scam hey.... If you want to learn funk the bootsy way just listen to his records and replicate as best you can....better than paying him $300 lol.
13. Watcha talkin bout' Willis......and why have u got a girls haircut?
14. One is a King and the other is a Flea so i think that says it all.........LMAO
15.
I can't see by what measure you are judging this. Musically? Superior songs? Superior production? What?? People buy "records" for different reasons, most (I would argue) because they like the finished product when they play it on their chosen medium, as it (hopefully) moves them emotionally, or it "resonates" lyrically, etc. I could suggest that RCHP/Flea is musically "superior" as his bass lines are simpler and sit within the "whole" of the songs usually. That also could make RCHP/Flea "technically superior" for the same reason. I'm not always convinced by the argument that, as someone plays a lot of notes (albeit very well) in a song, it makes them technically or musically superior....sorry. My fav bass lines are often I, V (2 to the bar). But at least I know now that after 35 years of playing bass, I am not a decent musician.
I didn't say its because someone plays any more notes so dont put words where arent any....ask a session player which is technically and musically superior to play....its quite obvious....it's like comparing the graphics of Tom and Jerry to -say, Avatar.
16. Like i said b4 -If you've been playing for any amount of time or are any kind of decent musician you will know the Level 42's records are musically and technically superior to RHCH just by listening, or watching. Have a look at this, you might learn something from him....lol http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3CFPVdJKI9g And who said Mark King hasn't got the "FUNK" ???? lmao
17.
You are bass_ferret and I claim my reference to the Wiki.
WTF is bass_ferret? lol
18.
Can you prove or quantify that, or are you just stating a personal preference? I suspect the latter. Doesn't make it a fact.
If you've been playing for any amount of time or are any kind of decent musician you will know the Level 42's records are musically and technically superior to RHCH just by listening.
19.
It is a strange comparison. Flea is just a good bassplayer in one off the most popular bands but as a bassplayer he doesn't do anything special; he is just a very good bassplayer and his basslines are nice but nothing special. When i heard him first I did not understand the excitement. All the bassplayers in the 80's , including me, were already playing things like that. Mark King is a complete different story. I was not really in to him(I was into Marcus miller and Jaco) but he created a style that maybe already existed but not at that level. He really brought something new to the bassworld. And he made bass so popular. Before him nobody wanted to play the bass, after him everybody including Flea wanted to play the bass. His style is a bit dated these days and nobody listens to him anymore but he is one of the most influencial bassplayers of all time. Flea will never reach that status. RHCP brought a new sound to the musicworld but not to the bassworld. Mark King did!
Level 42 are about to tour the UK, EUROPE and the STATES Pete.....so i wouldnt exactly try to say no-one listens to him anymore mate. Going back to difference with Flea and Mark King...the difference in levels as players is huge.......Mark is a far superior player....you only have to see the Live In Wembley dvd to see that, his use of chords, 10th chords etc, and harmonics- to see the difference....Flea may be good but he's really just a better than average player. To even compare the two is silly really, they are both from different genre's and levels of music for a start...the type of music King plays is far superior to Flea's anyway...and Mark King has a proven track record of being able to play anything you can throw at him.........so the two are on totally opposite playing levels anyway.
20. No bass tab i can find but use the chords..its easy enough to play buddy. http://www.megachords.com/guitar/music/751...aker-street.htm
21.
It might come as a great shock, but not everyone likes Kinger as much as you do. This doesn't make you right and them wrong, or vice versa for that matter. There really is nothing quite as pointless as arguing that bassist A is 'better than' bassist B.
I like all sorts of players from MM to Stanley Clarke to Jaco and Weather Report, to Bernard Edwards, Mark King, JPJ, Verdine, Nick Beggs, Laurence Cottle, Bootsy, Francis Rocco, you name em i like em baby. Only making a point about MK because he doesnt deserve the sh*t names he gets called here.... and as for Flea he's an ok bass player, but nothing special, and certainly nowhere remotely near league of the guys i mentioned.
22. I wouldnt call this a great bass player at all to be honest: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G2bboRR9Tjg...feature=related And this guy is being compared to Mark King.....what a joke!
