Fart

Probably a simple question to answer. My speaker was farting because the middle dome paper bit had become slightly disattached. It wouldn't glue. I took it off. It sounds fine now. Did I do anything wrong?

I think you've taken off the dust cap, is all. I'd give your speakers a good going over; you may be driving them too hard.

You'll probably have lost a bit of treble from having removed the dustcap, but more importantly if it was a non-porous dustcap you may have also reduced the ability of the speaker to cool its voicecoil. My guess is that you're pushing the speaker to its limits at the moment so with continued similar use it's probably going to die at some point.

It might simply have been old age, bits of me come off from time to time. If you still have the dust cap then stick it back on again. clean off any dust and stick it with copydex or any other latex based glue. This will restore the air flow over your coil and stop the dust getting in to damage your voice coil.
