Part exchanging my Fender Aerodyne Jazz for a G & L Tribute L2000

Hello everybody,

I just need a bit of help and advice from any players with experience of both or either of these basses. Basically, i am thinking of part exchanging my Fender Aerodyne Jazz Bass in for a G & L Tribute L2000. I love the idea of all those possible tones at my fingertips, but i also value lightness in a bass.

Do you think that the tones that my Aerodyne can currently produce will be easily replicated on the L2000? Also, my Aerodyne being 7 lbs in weight is lovely on the back and shoulders after extended playing, Is the L2000 noticeably heavier?

I've read so many brilliant reviews on this particular bass, and i've seen some excellent movies too. In an ideal world, i would have both basses, but if i had to have only one out of the 2, which one would you go for, and why?

I've had annoying buzzing on my jazz pickup, which i replaced with a supposedly quiet Dimarzio UltraJazz pickup, which i had fitted professionally, and annoyingly it still has buzzing issues, if strings aren't muted or being played. I understand that this may be a screening issue, but really, a bass guitar that costs a fair bit shouldn't have this issue. Would i still be having the same problems with an L2000?

I really want both, but must only choose one. I like the tones i can get out of my Aerodyne with both P & J pickups on full and played palm muted pick style or finger style. Think of Stings tone in the Police, that's what kind of tone i have, and that i like.

My band plays similar rock reggae music. An L2000? an Aerodyne Jazz Bass?

Please help me my fellow bass players, as im sure that most of you have more experience, skills and knowledge at your fingertips, in regards to this issue.

Any feedback would be massively appreciated.

You say in the post that you are happy with the sound that you get from your Jazz, so why change it? Some people change basses to find a tone that they are really happy with, which you seem to have found already.

The L2000 is capable of doing both Jazz and P bass sounds and is a great bass in it`s own right. Beware though, the neck width can vary from 42mm to 44mm and the neck can be chunky especially compared to a jazz. It is a very versatile bass.

7lb basses are few and far between. Keep it. Chuck some Wizards or Fralins in the Aero and it'll rock on forever. I had an Aero with Fralins and it was fantastic, I only got rid of it because it was uncomfortable with that weird shape body and bound edge.

I used to have an Aerodyne which I sold cos I didn't like the sharp edge on the body. I now have a Tribute L-2000 which sounds great but is appreciably heavier-but not too much so.

I also have a G&L SB-2 which I can get Aerodyne-like sounds out of and so much more too, and it's lighter than the L-2000.
Also, if you can, try a Bacchus Jazz-excellent basses made in Japan.

Thanks alot for your feedback. I dont suppose you would be able to fill me in on the particular models of those 2 pickups please? I might investigate. And would they really improve my sound noticeably? I actually find the Aerodyne really comfortable,
