yo

my dream bass is the fender 51, as played by the legend that is Lou Barlow of the mighty Dinosaur Jr. and Sebadoh, but there's no way in hell i can afford £500 and a ticket for Leeds so i'm thinkin of buildin my own possibly...

Basically what could go wrong/is it a good idea?

Could i sand the edge off a precision headstock to make it look like a 51?

could i put a different pup in the routed hole?

am i creative genius or perverted psychopath? help please!!!

peace out

oh yeah and i'm not on a huge budget right now i'm thinkin £200 max but that may not be realistic? help!

i was thinkin that but i've had enough of squier. my dad's got this sweet fender 78 precish he's gonna give me sometime and i want to demote the epi thunderbird to practice and then a respectable 51 precision for drop c and stuff

You can sand a later headstock to look like a '51 and you might, with a bit of chisel work get a single coil into the routing, but it'll take allot of work (and body filler :) ) to turn a contoured body into a slab sided '51 style body. It would probably be easier to find a bit of wood and make one.
