BassAdder60 Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago Hi I have the MarkBass MB58R 122 8ohm cab rated 800w and also MB58R 102 cab rated 8 ohms 400w is this stack unlikely to work or sound odd ? I’m aware of power spread not being equal but is it a mistake using a 12” cab and a 10” cab together and why ? Better is two of the same I know but I own both and tempted to try at rehearsals if folk think it won’t sound awful!! The 122 cab on its own is awesome so this is just getting a cab nearer my ears more than anything Quote
fretmeister Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago I don't like mixing cone types - not even different models of just 10s or just 12s etc. I always find that the perfect EQ for one cab / speaker is not the same as for the other so there's always a compromise that cannot be dialled out - at least not without cross overs or a completely different amp feeding each cab. If it was me, I'd pick the cab I liked best and just get another of the same. No compromises then and also no option paralysis in choosing which one to take on a smaller gig when only 1 is needed. It's not going to sound awful by any stretch of the imagination, but it might not sound exactly as you want. If you are relaxed about that - then no problem. Give it a try and see what happens - nothing will go wrong and your band mates won't even notice as long as they aren't asked to help you carry! 2 Quote
BassAdder60 Posted 1 hour ago Author Posted 1 hour ago (edited) They both sound great and although it’s common for 10’s to be used with 15’s in the old school way and I currently own both I guess it’s a try it and see if only to hear better as it raises the sound closer to my ears. The 122 on its own is awesome and all I really need and I have two of the MB58R 102 cabs ( both for sale on here ) it was a thought that maybe I would keep one of the 102 cabs purely as a bigger rig I can try it out and see if I like the result. If they both sell then that’s fine too and I will gig the 122 on its own as it’s perfectly acceptable Edited 1 hour ago by BassAdder60 Quote
Sandypjb Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago I've been using a Markbass LMII 2 x 10 combo with an 8 Ohm Markbass 2 x 12 Ninja Cab with tweeter for ages in pubs - sounds great to my ears. It's pretty much what you're proposing so I wouldn't have any concerns IMHO. Quote
ossyrocks Posted 2 minutes ago Posted 2 minutes ago I briefly ran a Mark Bass 102P with a 151P, and I didn't like it. A pair of 102Ps was a lot better. I've always run matching cabs ever since. Quote
