Odyssey B300 bass - rare Attila Balogh bass from the 1970s

I'm currently selling my long scale basses as I move over to medium and short scale. As such, this beautiful and rare Odyssey B300 is now available.

These were built in the 1970s by Attila Balogh in Vancouver, Canada. His guitars and basses are known for their superb quality, easily rivalling Fenders and Gibsons of that period in terms of workmanship. It's well worth looking into facts and details about Attila Balogh and Odyssey, as it's a truly fascinating story.

I had this bass shipped over from Canada a few years ago. I have barely played it due to increasing discomfort with long scales. It has been well played, and shows the usual wear and tear, but has no major damage, scratches or defects.

The body is a flat top mahogany, with an ebony fingerboard, brass nut, bridge and fittings. The Bartolini pickups give this bass a rich resonant tone. It comes with the original hard case.

I do travel, so may be able to deliver

I don't have a weight for it, but I'll see if I can manage to weigh it later today. I don't think it's particularly heavy, but I may just be used to it. It is mahogany, so it's not going to be light either!

I love the almost (?) parallel neck/fingerboard.

Reminds me of the Aria SB1000.

I wish more basses were like this.

Wow - I haven't seen one of these Odyssey basses in the UK for about 30 years!

IIRC, a bass player called Eg White played one of these in his first band, Yip Yip Coyote, circa 1983/4, before he went on to form Brother Beyond.

Eg was a really good player and his Odyssey bass sounded incredible.

A really rare bass indeed and great to see on here. ..

GLWTS 👍😊

That's some pretty impressive niche knowledge mate. I do remember the name Yip Yip Coyote, but must've erased that song from memory. Where on earth does a band go after that song?

Nowhere as a band, to be honest.

But Eg has had a pretty stellar career since then, as artist/writer/producer.

The reason I know this is that I was in a band at the time and we knew Yip Yip Coyote, went to the same gigs, clubs etc.. Plus, they were big BowWowWow fans, like my band were, so we shared common musical influences, tastes etc.

I nearly bought an Odyssey bass myself back in the mid 90s (that was being advertised on Loot) , told myself I couldn't afford it, and then regretted it for months afterwards.. What a fool I was! 🤦😁
