EMSims Posted Sunday at 16:36 Posted Sunday at 16:36 (edited) Evening, I was hoping for some help identifying the construction of this bass as it’s been about 10 years since I bought it and I’ve completely forgotten. I’m looking to sell it but I’m not 100% confident if it’s solid wood throughout or just the top. The bass is a 3/4 Andreas Zeller fo Stentor, made in 2008 in the typical amber gold colour. There’s a small chip on the edge of the back face on the bottom, I can’t see any evidence of lamination or ply. Also, there’s a knot in the wood on the back and I can see a smaller artefact of this from the inside. This leads me to believe it’s spruce top with maple sides, and solid throughout… but I could be wrong. Any thoughts or tips? Does anyone know a typical value for this kind of bass? I appreciate it’s an entry level bass but I see wild fluctuations in prices online. It’s done me well so keen it gets some more use from someone else. Thanks in advance, Ed Edited Monday at 18:28 by EMSims Correction Quote
Duckyincarnate Posted Monday at 16:03 Posted Monday at 16:03 I tend to think of used reputable student basses as around the £1k mark generally, but others may correct me on that. Quote
Beer of the Bass Posted Monday at 18:37 Posted Monday at 18:37 I'd say that's all solid, partly from looking at the edges of the side, and partly because it's a multi-piece back and has reinforcement strips along the joins on the inside, which would be unnecessary with a laminated back. Quote
EMSims Posted Monday at 18:45 Author Posted Monday at 18:45 Thanks both, I appreciate your two cents on this! Quote
NickA Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago fully carved bassfor sure. Hybrids and laminates are around the £800 to £1000 mark, so probably up to £1500.... which is what you appear to be asking on eBay. Bassbags sell fully carved factory basses for a lot more than this, starting around £2500 but Casswells have some around £1300 Of course it depends on what it sounds like! Quote
