AlexDelores Posted December 14, 2025 Posted December 14, 2025 (edited) I’m looking to essentially ‘pinstripe’ my bass as I really like the look of binding on guitars, and In a bit of homage to Jared Followill old pinstriped T’Birds… Can anyone with experience in panting basses recommend a paint type for this and a brush over gloss. My main worry is it would just rub off where my arm falls. I’ve done a ChatGPT mock up to demonstrate what I’m looking for. But it would just be a single line around the edge of the body/headstock/pickup surround/ pick guard and I wouldn’t be actually binding the neck😅 Thanks Alex Edited December 14, 2025 by AlexDelores Quote
Norris Posted December 15, 2025 Posted December 15, 2025 This is generally known as "faux binding" and there are several techniques (do a search). Easiest may be to find some thin self-adhesive vinyl. If you want to paint, it will need to be compatible with the existing finish. Disclaimer: I've only ever done real binding. 1 Quote
BigRedX Posted December 15, 2025 Posted December 15, 2025 Whatever method you use, you'll need to clear coat over the top to prevent the "binding" from wearing off. 1 Quote
