MyNameIsMark Posted 40 minutes ago Posted 40 minutes ago Hello! I have a playlist of 60’s soul songs I like to revisit/warm-up/practice to. This weekend, instead of playing the lines, I replaced them with 8th notes on the root of the chord. I have in the back of my head advice from an unknown pro “make it feel good” & actually amazed how difficult that can be! I have so many inconsistencies… which finger I fret with, attack of the single picking finger, my second picking finger is a disaster, heavier swings are all over the place! Such a simple exercise with such a simple goal. I feel like I’ve skipped years of foundational stuff, hiding behind ghost notes & the void of syncopation. Maybe this’ll help others, let’s hope it helps me! 🫠 Quote
chris_b Posted 14 minutes ago Posted 14 minutes ago To make anything groove or swing you need impeccable timing. Bad or inconsistent timing always gives the game away. It doesn't matter what you play, if you play it with great timing. Work with the drums and try to play as one. 60's Soul songs and Motown are a great place to start. They were all fantastic players. 1 Quote
