Hello,

I have a Fender Classic 50s reissue P bass that I've been playing for over three years without any issues—until last year. Problems began after a show when the signal completely dropped. Sometimes, when I plug in, the guitar works perfectly, but then, seemingly out of nowhere, it stops functioning, only producing a faint signal if I turn the tone up. I took it in for servicing and mentioned this issue, but when I got it back, the technician said he couldn't find anything wrong. I'm at my wit's end! I've tried different jack leads and plugged into various amps, which has oddly 'fixed' the problem twice. For example, I might plug into one amp and get no signal, then switch to another amp and still get nothing. When I plug back into the first amp, it works again?! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Being a P bass there isnt too much that can go wrong.  A full new harness would be about £30 and other than that the only thing it could be is a loose/broken pickup wire?

I'd guess at it being the lead or input socket shorting against the cavity wall. Try sticking a bit of electrical tape on the sides of the cavity around the input and see if that sorts it.
