Springywheel Posted June 14 Posted June 14 (edited) I have an opportunity to pick up a first gen classic vibe 60s p bass locally for more or less the same price as a sire p5/R. Which one should I shoot for? Edited June 14 by Springywheel Quote
Stub Mandrel Posted June 14 Posted June 14 The one you that makes you want to pick it up and play it. They are very different but both quality affordable basses. Try them and see which one speaks to you. 2 Quote
HeadlessBassist Posted June 15 Posted June 15 Like he said ☝️ Try both and see which you like the sound of best, and which feels best in your hands. Remember that you're obviously going to need to allow for the instrument not having your ideal setup or favourite strings, but you'll know which one it is. My generic personal preference would be the Sire. They offer a lot of quality bass for not much money, especially on the used market. 1 Quote
Springywheel Posted June 15 Author Posted June 15 (edited) I went for the classic vibe in the end ... Both great basses but the neck is lovely on the CV. It's very subtle but I prefer the sound and feel of a rosewood FB Edited June 15 by Springywheel 3 Quote
dave_bass5 Posted June 16 Posted June 16 (edited) Good choice. I sold off a lot of basses when we hit lockdown, but still kept my 60's CV. Agree about the neck. Ive had my neck on quite a few basses since I got it, but these days it's happily at home on its original body. I do have a set of custom Wizard pups in it, and have changed the bridge as I wasn't a fan of the string spacing (20mm IIR, but prefer 19mm). Other than that, it's all original lol. I also had an original Sire 5 string Jazz, and that played well but was quite heavy. Edited June 16 by dave_bass5 1 Quote
