Today I finished a good mod, fix and fettle job on my Squier Sonic P. It's now sporting  a Lollar P pickup, new wiring harness and a set of Dunlop Super Bright steels. I've honestly just been laughing my head off it sounds so good now.  So knarley and expressive.

Sorry just had to share. I'm smitten!

It’s always nice when a change inspires you.

I was first looking for Lollar pickups for my 79 Yamaha jap pbass. I kept missing some on the used market. In that time a friend offered me some Bart’s. They sang in a way that inspired me to improvise for hours upon hours. I would like to try lollars at one point though.

I've always wondered about and been interested in the Barts. Classic or Original?

It may seem a bit crazy to put in some pickups that cost the same as the bass, but I've had these Lollars in a drawer for a few years but never used them. Forgot about them to be honest. I was having a house tidy and discovered enough good P bass bits from here and there knocking around to warrant buying a cheapy to put them all on. It was either that or sell all the bits. Glad I kept them. Turned out to be a fun little project!

That’s amazing. I bet you learnt a lot. That p bass is not going anywhere now right? lol.

I have the classics “8cbp”. It has a buttery smooth treble but with presence. Never harsh. Bass is deep ( I put flats on to tame my bass as I think my  Asian ash and maple fretboard caused the E string hard to tame with rounds)  and mids can be very articulate, I love to boost mids at 800hz. I play mostly finger style. My misses says when I play melodic phrases with my bass it’s very dreamy and articulate while never being harsh.

Chords and melodic phrasing sound beautiful to me with Bart’s. I would presume the lollars are more growly and expressive.

No this P is staying, but now I need another with Barts 😆

Glad you're happy and it sounds lush from your description.

"Dreamy" - love that!

Cheers. You should give them a try. My mate who I got these of has done vintage Bart’s coming his way and if he doesn’t like them I said I’ll take them. I’ll keep you posted as when I A&B with mine I’ll let one go. That’s if he doesn’t like them lol.
