Hi,
Total newbie to Double bass, although I did 2 years at school, eons ago, with very little progress or practice!🤔
Part of what I do is a duo with my wife on piano and vocals.
Rather than a EUB I was thinking of a shorter scale double bass.
But what about gut strings?
Until a month ago I hadn't realised they were a realistic option.
I've seen these on eBay and their website. Does anyone have any experience of them?
Price seems good.

I'm guessing those are the Indian made guts that a few different sellers have. Most of the classic gut string jazz sounds would use a plain gut G and D and a silver wound gut E and A, and the ones one the link are all plain. Plain gut on the lower strings is hard to get a good pizzicato sound with and I only see them being used by a few slap players.

What Beer of the bass said. I love gut, but even I only use the G plain gut (actually I use Gut-a-like Swingmasters these days...), with Evah Pirazzi Slap EAD.

The Ebay strings are OK for real simple roots music, but very little note definition or attack in the E and A. Even quality plain gut struggle with that on the E and A.

Unless you've tried full plain set and know that's what you want I would advise against.

Apart from anything you need to make quite substantial nut and bridge adjustments to get the buggers on, and if you don't like them you're in a pickle. I've been there. Thanky heavens for Milliput.
