Quatschmacher Posted January 27 Posted January 27 (edited) Some of you may have seen this and other such cryptic images from Source Audio over the past few months: This was shown to the public at NAMM and Roger has been talking about it on TB and TGP. I quote his post below: The orange "play" button is "SoundCheck". If you don't own a particular SA pedal, or maybe no SA pedal at all, SoundCheck offers a bit-exact means to experience any of our digital pedals in a deeply immersive manner. If you DO own a particular SA pedal, SoundCheck offers a very effective means to browse, tweak, create, and manage presets without needing a pedal, instrument, or amp. We blew lots of minds with SoundCheck at NAMM, and these are folks who have seen it all for many years. Experiencing a pedal and playing with a pedal without actually having the pedal is really exciting! Edited January 27 by Quatschmacher Quote
GisserD Posted January 27 Posted January 27 Can you actually play guitar through it? Or just play pre loaded samples? Quote

I believe that user samples will be possible. Basically means you can tweak a pedal and see what it does before even owning it. (I guess it may also lay the groundwork for potential plugins at a later date.) 1 Quote

Quatschmacher Posted 4 hours ago Author Posted 4 hours ago Anyone been playing around with this to try out new pedals in advance of purchase? Quote

All very interesting but seems a lot of bother. I generally look for gear and FX reviews on youtube. Youtube makes it quick and easy to find demos, and make comparisons to similar products. Also some give very honest and reliable reviews that help to understand how inspiring and useable the sounds are? I suspect the Source Audio marketing team won't like me very much. Quote

The thinking behind his is that one can literally try out the features for oneself, tweaking in real time to see if the device works, rather than people having someone else make the decision for them. For people who just want to use existing presets, they can simply load them up into Soundcheck and audition them to hear if they provide inspiration/usability and cut out the middleman. Quote

It will be really useful. Perhaps it's that I've done so much tweaking over the decades, I'm all tweaked out for now. 1 Quote

Installed tons of VST's and spent months experimenting, but now have very few. I work in reverse too. Used to tweak to find something interesting. Now I imagine the result and design how to achieve it, and often end up somewhere interesting in between. Quote
