EMG DCs with non-EMG preamp - Wiring Assistance ⚡

I've seen someone fit some DC45s along with a Delano Sonar preamp and it sounds great. I already have the latter installed but with stock pickups in my Yamaha RBX6JM.

A few questions to those with the know how please.

1) Can I use a separate battery to the preamp or does it have to be on the same circuit ?

2) Is the existing blend pot usable or should it be an EMG one ?

3) What (if any) grounding connections need to go ?

Thanks in advance.

  • Machines changed the title to EMG DCs with non-EMG preamp - Wiring Assistance ⚡

1) you can use a 1 or 2 battery solution. You could consider a parallel 9 V solution for longer operation.

2) whichever blend pot (with MN taper) should work. Some may be more or less aggressive, so some trial is in need. Try Bourns 250k MN.

3) grounding, well EMGs do not require bridge grounding. Others are needed.
