Gave it a bit of love, partial new cover plate as 1/2 was missing, fret clean and set up It has Mighty Mite pups, a laminated through neck using unusual darker timber. Plated metal knut and bridge, some kind of pre-amp which appears to work. Plays OK but has a weak sound compared to my other basses. Tanglewood only produced them under the 'Baron' name for a few months. Less than 200 produced I believe. Great basses if you can get one. Were they considered to be any good? Yeah, they are pretty decent basses. They don't change hands for that much, but they are built to a high standard. If its all now in working condition with a decent action etc then £75 is absolute pennies for a bass of that quality. Tanglewood stopped making them because they couldn't sell them at the price they needed to to actually make money. The 6 string version had an RRP of £699 back in 1996, I'd guess the 4 string would have RRP'd at between £499 and £599. I have Matsu Japanese basses so I knew what I was seeing with the through neck etc. The Gent who sold it to me is a luthier who repairs and does set ups on upright double basses as well as other stuff. He said he bought it to restore but changed his mind about it. Probably too much to replate the tired metalwork. I like it anyway and it's pre reliced😀. I tried it out again for sound in a different amp (an Ashdown electric blue 180) it sound huge not as I thought. It has different pups to the ones shown in the photoes and no signs of being modded to take them.
