What strings for my Jazz would help give ...

A decent thump but not lose too much tone?

I also like low tension strings if possible and I prefer the feel of flats.

I don't have the dosh to try 3 or 4 sets of strings so I'd like to get it fairly close at the first attempt.

The Jazz is a standard MM so passively the tones are redundant and I like a more muted tone than full on gives.

It's currently strung with DR MM Signatures and I don't particularly care for them.

I have Rotosound 88's on my EB-o and I love them to play, just dont care for the tone.

TIA

I know what you mean about the RSs, I also have them on my EBO and I'm not sure they give the best tone, but it might also be the tone of the guitar and I seem to remember them sounding better on my jazz bass about 30 years ago (could be rose tinted glasses though).
I've been using GHS medium gauge on the jazz for about 5 years and they sound pretty good to my ears.
I'm also curious about Labella Deep Talkin strings which might be up your street too.

Hope you get it right first time and don't forget to give them at least a year to settle in. :)

Unfortunately there is no substitue for trying whats available and using the ones you like best. The road to string nirvana can be a long and expensive one, and then the strings you decide on get discontinued and you have to start all over again.

I am currently enjoying TI Jazz Flats and Status Hotwire Half Rounds.
