Hi all, long story short, im about to acquire a limelight jazz bass neck in a trade

the previous owner, for his own reasons has sanded the back of the neck down to bare wood thus removing the tint and roadworn look that the guys at limelight finished it off with

when the neck arrives im going to look at getting the old aesthetics back on it but ive no idea where to start or even if i could match the tint to the existing, need some help and advice of the best way to go about this

Any advice will be greatly appreciated and heeded

Obligatory pictures.....

I'd leave well alone if you don't know what you're doing. I'm assuming you want to go back to the darkened/aged look. It's very difficult to do convincingly. If you insist, the best advice I can give is don't stain the bare wood. Protect it with some form of sealer first to prevent the colour from sinking into the grain. You could always play it with dirty hands for a year or so and achieve the effect naturally...

thanks for the advice guys, something well worth chewing over, I'm not especially after a relic or roadworn look, I'm more looking at options so as to match the lacquer tint that was/should have been on there, water based stains could well be worth a look into though so thankyou for that suggestion.

I'm wondering if something like this would get the same effect?!
