BassBod Posted August 22, 2017 Share Posted August 22, 2017 This is nice, and a bit unusual. Raven Labs was the small company started by Steve Rabe, after he sold SWR. They made useful high quality preamp/eq/DI type boxes that were very much state of the art for the time. I've owned this for at least ten years...probably more like 15.. The APD-1 is an active DI that also uses an audio transformer for the output. Lots of good features - two inputs (both switchable in/out) - standby mute switch - separate tuner output - effects loop, with variable blend control to mix effects in - four output levels choices for DI plus ground lift - phase reverse [attachment=251820:OriginalPhoto-525084040.938944.jpg] This unit is in excellent condition, just one or two slight paint scratches. The only issue is the power supply. Raven Labs used an unusual +/-9v power supply, but also a stereo mini jack connector - these could kill the power supply if pulled, and often did. So I've run this on batteries (2x9v) and never had any problems - the included manual suggests 50-60 hours battery life. You just have make sure you turn it off with the switch, not just unplug. BassBod Posted August 22, 2017 Author Share Posted August 22, 2017 Just read the manual - both inputs have 10meg ohm input impedance, making it useable for piezo pickups and very good for passive magnetic pickups.
