hamfist Posted December 26, 2013 Share Posted December 26, 2013 (edited) I'll be cutting my first custom scratchplate in a few days. I've got a good template. I'll be using a Dremel mainly, plus a large flat file and sanding blocks for the final flat edges around the pickup cutouts. What I'm not quite sure how I'm going to do is to get the nice even bevel around the outer edge of the scratchplate. Any tips on doing that, or any in general about making your own scratchplates. Oh, I'll be using one of the standard 3mm thickness scratchplate blanks that are easily available. Oh, I also have ordered two sheets in case I f**k up the first ! BrunoBass Posted May 9, 2018 Share Posted May 9, 2018 (edited) Old thread resurrection, rather than start a new one: I want a white ‘51 Precision style scratchplate and am struggling to find one off the shelf. I don’t really want to paint the black one I’ve got, but also I don’t want to pay the £65-70 I was quoted by a specialist scratchplate maker (the bass it’s for only cost £15 more than that!) Does anyone on Basschat make them? I considered making my own but don’t have the necessary tools, or more importantly, skills. There are also a few online shops that make them, depending on the material used. Also check out the affiliates section on this site and a few may be advertising that they make custom ones. And, if you still can't find someone, send me a Pm, and I can make one for you. Though I'm a busy guy, and wouldn't be able to get it started for 3 weeks.
