J&D Basses - Views?

Chaps and Chapesses,

anyone know anything or own a J&D 1975 Vintage Bass? They retail at around £120, just seen a few played on You tube and they sound pretty good for the cash.

I fancy buying a cheap instrument for perhaps an upgrade project.

Views anyone?

Steve.

Asides from the comical name.... I like the look of them to be honest, some interesting colours. Was thinking about getting one to have lying about the house to noodle on when I'm watching the telly or whatever....

I wouldn't think they are of the utmost quality to be honest. Probably comparable to other basses you could get for the money.

I have a black one of these that I'm actually looking to move on (look out for the ad in For Sale section! ;)). I have owned it for about 3 years and actually sold it once and bought it back as I missed it, but having just bought a Squier VM Precision V I need to recoup some cash, otherwise it wouldn't be going anywhere!

I bought it for much the same reasons as you are considering it as I thought it would be a cool platform to mod but I was actually very pleased with it stock and gigged with it on several occasions quite happily. I got as far as putting an Audere preamp in it but decided to go back to passive so upgraded the wiring with one of KiOgon's wiring harnesses.

Despite the price point I think it is a really nice instrument and plays very well and sounds good to boot. I've also owned one of their Precision copies that I was very pleased with too.

...I really fancy the Sea Foam Green finish. Will give a a go...

Thats the one I like as well :) I'm guessing it'll need a bit of a setup as you say, but very few basses are perfect out of the box anyway.

If you do get one do a little review, I'd be interested to know how it plays.

They do look good value. I'm not a guitarist and I guess it could be a dog but for £165 there seems to have been a fair bit of work put into this just looking at the pics; http://www.ebay.co.u...f7#ht_233wt_946

For basses if I knew in advance I was playing some really dodgy festival or something and was worried about security then this might be an option;http://www.ebay.co.u...d8#ht_518wt_709
