For the last two mornings attempting to view Basschat has resulted in the following message:

Basschat.co.uk: Down for maintenance
We'll be back soon! Check our Facebook page for updates:

Looking on Facebook gives no indication of what is happening. Was this planned maintenance or issues that cropped up overnight and had to be fixed immediately? Either way it only takes seconds to post a message on Facebook and Twitter explaining what is going on.

Especially since the server was reporting a 503 error which can also be generated by an overload condition and could be the symptom of a DoS attack which would be much more serious.

Apologies for the lack of notice. Geoff is developing the website to install the software that will change the marketplace to a subscription based advertising area as previously notified.

We need to generate money in order to pay guys like Geoff, (who IIRC we pay in arrears) not only to develop the website but to keep it going.

So instead of a fully paid and contracted web developer updating the site when it's convenient for us, we have to rely on Geoff doing it whenever he can fit it in between proper paid employment in the assurance of getting paid by us when it's all finished. If we want planned maintenance - we have to pay for it! :)

AFAIK all the software is in place and it will be switched over on Monday - so there will likely be some forum downtime on Monday morning/afternoon.

Thanks for bearing with us on this - it's been a difficult road but we're nearly there!
