Peavey TVX Cab No Sound

Hey,

So the bassist in the band was setting up her rig:

Hartke something or other (4OHM)> Zoom B2 > Peavey TVX 4x10 (4OHM)

There was no typical bang or pop just didn't get a sound out of it last week.

Done the necessary swapping of cabs/leads and determined it is definintely the cab.

You can get a tiny little squeak out of it but only the level of a field mouse in a sock. It's a really feint squeak when you touch the lead to the bass with your finger.

Any ideas what could have blown.

Have checked for cold joints on the solder and all the wiring connections.

We're stumped!

PP3 across the speaker terminals of each speaker is the first thing to do to check that the speakers are OK. Disconnect the wires first. If the speaker gives a nice thunk then it's OK. No sound then no speaker.

thanks, yeah just checked this pops out on positive flow and pops in on negative flow. Still nothing else.

Hm, if remember rightly these have a crossover and a tweeter - maybe the crossover isn't working properly, or something has become disconnected.

I used to own a 410 TX years ago and I dimly remember something about a wiring mod, but I can't find the information any more :-(

Can you try bypassing the crossover, taking the speakers wires straight to a jack socket. Try the cab like this and if it works OK then it is the crossover and a repair or replacement is needed. You may however like the sound of the cab without the crossover in which case just make the bodge permanent.
