NS NXT used in North Indian Classical Music

Just stumbled across this young NS Artist via the NS website .

He is using an alternative tuning for Northern Indian Classical Music to emulate the vocal sound in the same way as a Saranghi or a Dilruba .
Tuning is as follows ;

( Where the E string would be ) he is using a high C string tuned to D
( " " A string would be ) " " " a regular D string tuned to D
( " " D " " " ) " " " a G string tuned to A
( " " G " " " ) " " " another high C string tuned to D

So DDAD

( In case you are wondering what a Dilruba is , here is mine with my NS NXT for scale . It is played with a bow like the Saranghi , but has frets like a Sitar ( which is plucked )

21 strings , the camel bone bridge sits on a tensioned goatskin ( like a banjo ). Only the two top left strings are played , the other two main strings serve as drones , and the 17 sympathetics are tuned to the Raga ( scale ) of the piece which can be varied to suit the vocalist .)

So , he is seeking to imitate the sound of a Dilruba , which in turn was created to imitate the sound of the voice , which is considered to be the " purest " form of Music in the Indian Classical tradition .

- Funny old world :)
